She should call the prosecutor and find out the details. I'm sure she's already told the prosecutors all the past history and details and if she hasn't, it's kind of late to do it now, but still should be given to them. For her to bring this to court won't have much credibility since the defense will be able to get a continuation to investigate it. But again, I'm sure that's a moot point. The prosecutors work with the police department, look at past records and the like and will bring in the documentation that's advantageous to the prosecution. I've been wondering how things were going. Hang in there! Things will work out. I have a feeling that he won't be released too soon. Thanks for the update. Thank you again everyone and thank you for the health tips on diabetes and the statins. Kiwi, my sister Marjorie can't take any statin drugs because of the muscle pains and swelling she experienced so she will watch Paul closely and ask him questions. Health Canada wants everyone who is diabetic now to be on a statin drug such as Lipitor which is why Paul was prescribed it. His cholesterol levels are good right now. Kiwi, I am sorry your Mom had so many side effects from the drug. Just for anyone who doesn't know in Canada our blood sugar measurements are different than in the US so blood sugar readings between 4 and 7 are considered in the normal range. Paul doesn't suffer from mental illness and isn't really depressed. He is great at handling stress and let me tell you he and his children have seen mental illness at its worse (his ex wife now deceased). Paul is actually handling his diagnosis better than I am. LOL Paul is on his way home from the Toronto area right now. He went to see his daughter and to pick up a china cabinet for himself and 8 banana boxes filled with stuff for me from my cousin who is moving. I am excited to see what she is sending me. Paul was happy to tell me his blood sugar level went down to 8 with the pills and he only had to get up to go to the bathroom once during the night. He said that is the best part, not being thirsty and not having to go to the bathroom all the time. LOL Paul should be meeting with the dietician one day this week and also the diabetic educator. His surgery is outpatient but the educator will probably come to see him while he is in the hospital. I just want him to be aware too that his blood sugar can drop and he needs to have something on hand or in his car to elevate his blood sugar if he has a reaction. My best friend has been a diabetic all her life and I have met with the diabetic educator because of my Mom so I am quite familiar with the disease. My Dad had type 2 diabetes as well. My blood sugar levels have always been on the low side. I think Paul is getting fed up with me bombarding him with information LOL so I will ease up a bit. He is a big boy. LOL Thank you again. Anne

Trust me on this--this is a 'bat your head against the wall' situation. You CANNOT change your parents. You CANNOT change your brother. All you can do right now is step back, see the situation for what it is and realize that your parents are going to give this deadbeat whatever he wants, for the rest of his life, and there will be nothing for you, ever. If you speak to professionals in the field, they'll tell you it's common for parents to over and over again put the 'needs' of a deadbeat child over the good of their other children and even ahead of what's good for them (the parents). Parents will often let one child bleed them dry. And oh yes, they will from time to time go to one of their other children, complaining about the drain on their finances--BUT they rarely really want any help. And if you do attmept to push them to do the right thing--guess who will be wrong and will be on the outs with the family? You. Not only have I seen many other families go through this same scenario, but let me tell you about DH's family. His one sister has always been a taker. She's got all sorts of explanations as to why she needs money--mind you, her husband has a very high position with the government and has made 6 figures for years. Anyway, this deadbeat, over the years, has gotten her parents to pay for: her kids' braces, her cars, her appliances, new roof for her house, and dozens of other stuff. FIL and MIL used to go to DH, complaining about the drain on their finances. DH would get all upset, worried for them, and make good suggestions. They didn't want to hear anything reasonable. Eventually, that SIL finagled and got control over their finances. the stress she put FIL under killed him way too early. Then she STOLE over a quarter of a million $$$ from MIL (who by that time had Alzheimer's). Cost us $20,000 so far in forensic accounting and legal fees to stop the hemmorage of $$$$. It's been 7 years, and the case still hasn't been completely resolved. And honestly? There's no money left in the estate for the rest of the children to inherit. I don't care if I NEVER get any money from someone else's death--that's not really how I choose to make $$$, but darn it, it's grossly unfair for one child to steal the estate from the others. If I knew in my eary 20's what I understand now about these family relationships, we would NOT have allowed ourselves to be victimized the way we were. We would have walked away years ago. I know that sounds cold, but we batted our heads against the wall for 35 years, always doing the right thing, never taking a penny from anyone that wasn't ours, and none of it was appreciated. ever. I know this isn't the advice you want to hear, but truly, the best thing you can do for yourself, is to handle your own fiances responsibly. To protect them from others, and to make up your mind that if your parents choose to give away their money now, to a child who should be able to pay his own way, they ARE NOT your responsibility in the future, when they are down and out because of it. Do not feel guilty if they come to you for help later in life and you feel you need to turn them down. They made their choices, it's not up to you to pay the consequences for others mistakes, truly.

If your brother "forgets", ask around for a person who does this sort of stuff. Ask you friend's husband for recomendation. Just make sure they are insured. My son in law does this type of stuff for many in this small town, but never accepts a job he cannot do. Contact the HS to see if they have a group of kids who will do it, or even some Churches will have young people doing this. Just ask around, but if you live by yourself don't just let anyone in your house. Always ask a neighbor to be there, and don't let them just wonder thu looking. Be smart, be careful
