Anyone built/willing to look at an Ahmann home plan?
Comments (9)Our plan is marked 78698 but it would seem it is no longer available. It is a ranch design anyway. What matters most is not anyone else's preferences, but your own. If you can visualize your own living in this space, then proceed. For example, we very much wanted all the bedrooms together despite the current trend to have a split area for the master. We wanted the kids close when they were young and needed us in the night, and closer still when they were teens and coming or going during the night--with or without permission, lol. That kind of preference is why we chose to build instead of buying a house off of the market. Your first step is to really decide what you want. If you and your spouse are on the same page, it will make the whole process so much easier. Take the advice you get here with a grain or two of salt. Nobody here knows you, your family, your site, your budget, your preferences more than you do. I prefer the powder room where it is for daily living and for entertaining purposes. If I wanted a powder room off the garage, I would add one on, not move the existing one. That said, we have one off of our garage through the laundry area and it is never ever used. Wish I had followed my gut and taken it out (might do this some day) in order to have a larger laundry. The double height room does divide a crowd. Some love it, some hate it. True what has been said about noise and heating/cooling. Yet they are popular for a reason as well. Open space, light, and height do give a free feeling and a connection of people who are in various spaces/activities. If you don't care for the open plan or double height, you could get a great bonus/play space by decking over the great room/entry. It would be doable rework. If that is what you are really wanting, there may be a better plan out there for you. If your plan were my build, I would remove the wall into the laundry and have a large mudroom/laundry area. I see no purpose for the wall since you can close off the whole area with the hall door if you wish to during entertaining. We also have an interior kitchen. I love it. I would move either the cooktop or the sink to the island. Our kitchen is the gathering space and I love having it in the center of our home. Oversize the windows in your nook and you won't feel closed in at all. If you run a cluttered kitchen, not being able to shut it off may bother you. I figure people who come to my home come to visit us, not our mess....it works for our family. You do have a separated dining area for holiday meals. One thing we did add into our plan is a walk-in 7 x 12 pantry. I dearly love my pantry and it is my favorite perk in our house. Perhaps you could slide in a mudroom half bath/pantry room by extending the space and simultaneously extending your garage. Closet, bathroom, closet windows are a personal choice. I do like the closet being away from the sleeping area so the sleeping spouse can stay that way while the other is getting ready. Make it work for you. HTH. Brian...See MoreEnlarging windows
Comments (21)I had what sounds like a similar situation--window over the sink, pretty impossible to open, looks over our driveway and the neighbor's (so not a particularly fabulous view)... Here's the "before" picture: I looked into the possibility of a garden window, but ultimately didn't go that way. First, it wasn't inexpensive. Second, I just anticipated a shelf becoming a clutter magnet, and I wanted to stay away from that. I ended up getting a new single-pane window with an awning-type opening. Here's the "after" picture: If you look closely, the new window is actually a tad smaller than the old one vertically--that was to avoid going to a custom window size. But, it feels so much bigger since it is one single pane in the center, rather than 4. This is one of the things I like best about my kitchen update. The new window is so easy to open, and just makes the kitchen look more open and light. The previous windows weren't that closed off, but just having it be one big window instead of 4 panes really makes a difference. For me, the fact that the view isn't anything to write home about hasn't been an issue. I like the more open look of the window, I like getting more light into the kitchen, and I love being able to open the window so easily. Changing out the window was a "nice to have" for me, the old window wasn't leaking or anything. But, I'm definitely glad I did it and would definitely say if you have to do something with that wall anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with enlarging/improving the window....See MoreConcrete Help needed! Comments (39)Jane, If you go to the White Windows Icon in the Taskbar (Lower Left Corner) and Right Click, you'll get a list, Device Manager will be in that List (Control Panel will also be in this list). You could also just Left Click on the White Windows Icon and click in a Blank Space then just start typing Device Manager and a List should pop up with Device manager towards the top of the list You can also get to Control Panel using this method)! Device Manager can also be found by going into Control Panel and the Device Manager Icon will be there in Alphabetic Order. The Printer Information will be Listed in Control Panel in the Devices and Printers Icon! It doesn't show up in the This PC Area any longer! In the Lower Right corner you'll find the information Center Icon. This Icon will be all White if there is information to view. The printer information may have been listed under the Information Icon. You only need to Click on the Icon to View the available Information. Below is a Picture showing the Information Icon (circled in red)....See MoreShades_of_idaho
