But I don't want you to think I'm giving you my trash. They are healthy just not robust. It also doesn't apply to "US citizens using their services"... It applies to US citizens earning certain types of income. If foreign banks don't comply, their citizens who have accounts in US banks will be withheld against, too. That statement is correct - every cross border transaction will NOT be affected. I could go through the rest of the OP and show where it's wrong but I won't. and then i could go thru snidely's and show where it will be out of date after July 1 but I won't. I've seen these before and they want you to send a copy of your ID and other personal info to them. No, of course it's not the IRS. Cynic's Rule #3: If information comes via email, odds are high that it's false. Seriously, Don't even open spam emails! Just by opening them you can be sending a confirmation that your address is active and that you will open anything you get, which makes your address more valuable to scam artists. All it takes is a little bit of code written in there. Quite simple and very effective. People who open all email are much more likely to be gullible enough to do what it says. Also if you're going to forward an email to, for instance, the IRS' phishing line, be sure to include the full headers. They can get all of this from your mail provider but it simplifies things if you do this.
