Do you line your new kitchen drawers and shelves?
Comments (21)Not sticky-backed at all. In fact it looks almost like packing foam, but thicker and stiffer. I like that it cushions the drawers and pull-outs where I used it. It muffles some of the noise when I put my pots and pans and glass bakeware away, and cuts down on the rattling when I open/shut those same drawers/pull-outs. It keeps my electric fry pan, my stand mixer, my food processor and its assorted parts from sliding around when I open or close their pull-outs and my cutting boards from doing the same in their drawer (not to mention protecting the wood from the mineral oil I use on my wood carving and cutting boards). I also ended up putting some pieces of CC on the bottom of my tray cab. I don't know if sliding my baking sheets and cooling racks in and out would have scraped up the cab floor or not, but my pizza stone stored in that cab surely would have, so I put pieces of CC on the cab floor on both sides of the divider. Is it a must have? That's up to you. Oh, and they do pretty much stay in place....See MoreDoes anyone line their cabinets?
Comments (34)Kris_Ma's response surprises me because one of the things I love about Cushy Cuboards is that it's really really stiff, almost like cardboard. I'm trying to figure out how it got all squished up. As to moving around, I was really careful (and my father helped with the hard stuff) to make sure it fit really well, to less than 1/8" so it can't move around. What makes it easier to clean? Well, when other (nameless) people put the laundry detergent in the cupboard, they seem to let it dribble all over the place so that it pools all around the bottle. And they spill the powdered additives. In the cupboard over the dryer. It's a LOT easier to empty the shelf, carefully pull out the Cushy Cupboards liner so that the loose stuff doesn't fall off, dump it in the sink, wash it, let it dry and put it back, than get up on a ladder and scrub the cabinet. It dries a lot more quickly too. Same for when a can leaks in the pantry. I keep orange soda for company, but eeeewwwww to the icky sticky a whole leaky can made. I had to wash everything that was in the same rollout shelf, and the Cushy. The Cushy was very easy to clean up, especially compared to the stuff that usually sits on it. Could have ruined the finish in the ROTS without it. For cleaning where the dishes are, I agree, it's an extra thing to clean. I have a good, hard smooth finish on my shelves, which is very spongeable, so I have it there for just for the cushy. Part of the joy of the friction is that when I'm pulling a dish off the top of a stack that's too close to the next shelf up, the stack I'm pulling from doesn't scoot forward, like it does with no cush....See MoreUsing wallpaper to line drawers/shelves..Has anyone done that???
Comments (9)Thanks everyone. I am going with anitamo's suggestion of using precut cardboard. Actually I could not find large sheets of cardboard to purchase and did not want to use random cardboard boxes laying around the garage (I have 15 drawers to line so want everything to be uniform using identical materials)...so I bought 4 large sturdy white posterboards from the local office supply store. I am going to cut them to fit the bottom of the drawers and simply wrap the wallpaper around the cardboard pieces and tape on the underside. My wallpaper IS pre-pasted. I definitely don't want any residue or paste to rub off on these brand new bathroom cabinets :) There will not be any clothing or linens going in these cabinets...it will be toiletries most likely stored in clear plastic/acrylic containers within the drawers. I just thought the wallpaper pattern would look pretty on the bottom of the drawers as well as protect them from spills, dust, etc. This post was edited by nutmegxo on Mon, Mar 11, 13 at 16:59...See MoreLining kitchen shelves and drawers ... Comments (35)It is a pain to do. But it's a job that you only have to do once ;) My Mom lined & I do, too. I've had spillage of sticky things in the past - honey, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar - and I was able to scrub the liner without worries of damaging the finish in my cabinets. This time around (thinking it's my last remodel..) I sprang for the pricey Cushy Cupboard brand. Might be overkill, but I love them, especially in my wide dish drawers. It provides traction so the dishes never slide as well as providing cushioning. Found it easy to work with, too. This is a job that goes faster and is less tedious if you have a friend (or sister, or daughter) to lend a hand. Put on your favorite music and just do it!...See Morepharaoh
