These are beautiful rooms. I really love the clean lines and soothing colors. I esp like the bedding. I had a thought while looking at your bedding. In May 2007, the Washington Post ran a story about lavender being the new neutral. I googled for the story and I found a link for it. (Link included below) OK, this is my point, I think you should paint the room a soft lavender. How about BM 2114-70 Venetian Marble or 2115-60 Majestic Mauve? I am looking at them now and of course, over the computer it's hard to tell the exact colors in the comforter, but I think these might work.

I agree with your idea to use an iron headboard (no footboard needed.)

Maybe you could move that beautiful chest to another room and find a bench for the end of the bed? That might soften things up a little? A fabric covered bench would be nice. Maybe one of the other talented posters might know of one?

Oh and I LOVE, love, love your bathroom vanity. Gorgeous!

Kiki, I felt the same way about adding the lavendar, it hit me right off the bat.
And no- green thumb..I would change the dresser mirrors, to a large single one, I would also change the hardware on the dressers and armoire, as well as paint them both a chocolate color. You could also find or paint the new mirror frame to match. I would think about making a head board with some material. Other than that I think the rooms are both really nice.

I would love to see a richer green on the walls, something more the depth of the trim on the comforter.

After you paint, the next thing I would do is change the window treatments. I would like to see heavier panels (to balance the weight of the heavy furniture) that are wider, so that the inside of each panel sits on the outer edges of the windows when the panels are opened. This would then allow the one behind the bed (and the other should match) to be as wide as the bed is. It will make the bed feel like it fits in front of the window, rather than making the window feel awkward. I would also hang them halfway between the trim and the ceiling, to bring some interest up in the space to balance the height of the armoire.

I would not change the headboard to iron. Once you get the curtains wide enough behind it, it will be perfect.

Is there any way you could move the tv to the wall where the round iron piece is hanging? I see the cable connection is currently below the tv, but they are usually very inexpensive to move. We did it here in two rooms, and it was a very small charge. Then you could set that cute table on that wall, which would put the focus up higher and not on the heat duct at the floor.

If it is not possible to move the tv hookup, instead of spending money on a cabinet to hide the tv, think about perhaps looking at an inexpensive flat panel tv down the road and mount that on the wall. No cabinet or table needed then. You can then put the taller of the two floral arrangements in front of the plugs and cable hookup, and contain the cords in a cord cover painted the color of the wall.

For now, I would put the shorter of the two arrangements under the table, put the taller one in the corner by the closet where the chair is, and move the chair to where the two floral pieces are.

I would get a more substantial bedskirt - the one you have is too lightweight imo for the bedding and the furniture. I would also love to see a decorative pillow to break up the pattern of the comforter and shams a bit - perhaps a creamy background with some type of pattern that pulls the colors in.

Does the cedar chest have to stay? I think it is charming, but I would love a clear view of the bed and bedding without the wood in front of it. If you need to keep it there, down the road look for a larger rug that can sit a bit under the end of the bed and is at least as wide as the bed. The little green one looks, well, little. :-)

Love the painted dresser in the bathroom. I would paint the little towel bar/cabinet over the toilet in black to match the dresser. A couple of pretty botanical/rose framed prints would be nice on the wall to the right of the vanity.

As for the mirrors over the dresser, I would take them down but save them - you never know what you might want to do down the road. I could see one painted black and hung elsewhere as a mirror over a smaller table, for example, in an entry way. I would get a mirror to hang in the center of the dresser wall area, then wall sconces on either side to fill the space a bit. This mirror might be great - the colors are pretty, and the shape echoes the center panel of the dresser door:

I agree with Kiki...switch out the wood bench for something in fabric.

Also, is it possible to move the armoire to another room? I think the problem is a bit of "wood overload". Maybe bring in more fabric pieces to soften the look.

OR
If it's necessary to keep your wood pieces, how about painting the room of soft creamy yellow? That color looks FAB against wood and you'd only have to update your bedspread. (even with this option, I'd opt to remove at least one piece of wood furniture).

i like the color in your bathroom. i think it's neutral enough that it'd work with your current bedding, and will probably work with many other beddings!

Besides the advice of others, I would add Euroshams in whatever color you are painting the wall that has that color in the quilt and add another little pillow in between them in that color and that color as a throw on the end of your bed.

I like your window treatments and I love your curtain rods. I would cover the chest at the end of your bed in a fabric to compliment the wall color also.

I would love to see a flat screen LCD TV above that console.

Thanks for all of your help. After I read through the posts, it hit me -- Besides the fact that I think the wall color is too "cool", that's what I don't like about that room. There is too much wood!
It is probably not an option now to paint the pieces. I don't think my husband would agree. I checked out the lavender Kiki and there are possibilities there - also the green Les. I know the bedskirt is a skimper. When I bought the comforter, they only had the green and I didn't think I would like that, so I ended up buying a cheapie which unfortunately is still there.
I could move the TV to the other wall, but then I couldn't see it from bed - not that we watch that much TV in bed - sometimes it's just background noise. Maybe I should just rid the room of it, but I don't think DH would agree. The other thing is that on that other wall, it is then the first thing you see when entering the room.
Les, I am going to move the chair to that other wall and start looking for a mirror. Right now, my biggest priorty is getting the bathroom done.
I spend almost all day today going from store to store, pretty much finding nothing.
I wish finding the right things was easier. It takes so very much time. Thanks again. I know this project is a bit on the back burner, but I want to keep it going so that when the bathroom is done, I can pick it up and be ready with ideas.

I like your rooms as-is except for the tv table. I thought that corner armoir you have would be nice to put the TV in but it will not fit with the way the room is arranged. What also struck me about your room is the amount of light you have. Ever think about plants? I think that is the character needed.

I like the walls as is but even though I am not crazy about cool colors I have to admit lavendar will be pretty.

I love your bathroom color and would repeat it in the bedroom or use a lilac, like suggested above - especially if you are keeping the quilt. A heftier bedskirt in the mauve to pull more colors into to the room. Solid Euros to match bedskirt or solid standard shams to place in front of patchwork ones - an accent pillow in front of that.

If you're keeping the furniture, I would not replace the headboard with an iron headboard since it will be to lightweight for the room.

Your bathroom cabinet is beautiful.

I would replace the twin mirrors with a large piece of artwork. You already have a large mirror in the bathroom and two great windows in the bedroom.

I took my dresser mirror down and replaced it with a very large picture.

I love it and you would like yours that way too.
The picture is nearly the length of the dresser and height
is nearly the height of a mirror. It just about has to be to look balanced.
It gives a different look.

at JCPenny's and its very very nice in person.

The vanity is so spectacular, I would love to see the black brought on into the bedroom.

While I thought this room was on the back burner until I got my pathetic bathroom done, but after shopping yesterday, I posted pics of my finds and haven't gotten any responses -- so maybe that means I should be concentrating on the bedroom!!
I moved the chair to where the two baskets were, put the small one under the TV and the the other one in the corner where the chair was. Big dif. I have a small antique floor lamp I am going to try next to the chair. I need to get a shade for it though.
What really does bug me is the TV. I don't like looking at it out in the open, so am going to look for something to put it in - but not wood, or maybe a painted wood, or something I can paint. My husband wants to buy a bigger TV for the room - I don't really want the one we have, but he is a sweetheart and asks for so little so it will stay.
I have thought about green walls - I don't think the green from the bathroom will work. I think it would be a bit too drab for such a large room. I have also thought of the lilac. I like the idea of toile.
What I would REALLY like --- is to be able to paint the room a color which could coordinate with the current comforter and then also be able to buy and additional set or two for Spring and Summer. Is that too tall an order?
What would I do about curtains? Les, you said wider to accomodate the headboard, just to the outside of the window. I assume that means not including the woodwork around the window?? I have the ugly vinyl shades in that room which of course don't show with the current WT.
I will be taking down the two mirrors, perhaps moving the cedar chest out, also getting a rug for under the end of the bed. I am just at a loss as to how to what to do to be able to use another bedding set in a different season.
