Has this happened to anyone else?

I normally use liquid fabric softener if I use it at all. However, I had some dryer sheets I wanted to get used up so I have been washing the clothes without liq. fab. soft. I noticed I get more suds in the rinse than I do in the wash. It is really bizarre. I have cleaned out my machine, but I'm still getting it. It has happened with more than one type (liquid or powder) of HE detergent too. It is even happening with the Charlies and I have tried cutting way back on any detergent used.

Anyone got any ideas?

Has your water company changed what they are putting into your water? Our water company puts in a chemical, once a year, that bonds to lead pipes. We live in a very old city where many of the homes still have their original lead service.

Liquid fabric softener does kill suds. MORE suds in wash than in rinse is a bit odd, though.

I just purchased 2 pop up enclosures, and a couple other items from LiveMonarch this summer. The order came very quickly, was 100% intact, and it included a little bag of milkweed seeds. Kind of dumb though, they didn't label the seeds and I don't know know what species they are (probably Asclepias curassavica). I love the pop ups (bought the small and large size) - especially the smaller one - it's 12 inches square. I started putting the Monarch chrysalises that were darkening in this one so they could eclose separately from the other chrysalises and cats. I'm also thinking about over-wintering my Black Swallowtails chrysalises in the small pop up. issues with paper towel method? anyone else?

Well, when I move the germinated seeds the rootlets are almost microscopic. I did let the first batch go too long and ended up cutting the paper towel around the little rooties to avoid handling. (Paper towels are incredible tough when you're attempting fine work.) Maybe breakage isn't much of an issue, but it can't help. And fingers are dirty things. I do have one immortal(?) BJ seedling. It came up with serious helmet head. I used small nippers to cut around the seed case and two tweezers under a magnifying lamp to pull the case apart. I didn't expect it to survive - this was an experiment. Yet it did survive - with two little stumps where the cotyledons would be. Okay, not the first time for that. But then the ADHD cat got hungry and ate it while my back was turned. No roots, no cots, just a stem. But it wasn't badly chewed so I stuck it back in its little cell. Where it resides to this day, green, upright, and laughing at the Reaper. I expect to see a leaf in a few days. There is definitely variation between varieties, too. Some don't seem to like the colder temps (if that is what it is) and some (like alma) just want to grow through the roof. I'm not clear on your overall yield, though. Are you seeing over 50% net after germination and planting?

Glad to hear you got your money back. I checked out their website and admit they certainly do seem well-established. I would have been comfortable ordering from them based on the info on their site. Did they offer any explanation on why you did not receive any worms? Is it possible they sent you their "Egg capsule material" instead? Here's their description: "Most of the egg capsules are completely covered with the casting material and you do not realize there are egg capsules." I believe this is true to some extent, but I'm pretty sure you should be able to spot quite a few cocoons in a batch of material that's supposed to contain a thousand of them. Maybe you should keep that material moist and warm for a while to see if worms start hatching out. Andrew

My gut reaction is that IE is being a little buggy or there's a corrupt file somewhere. You might want to start with an error check of your disk (My Computer, right click on the drive in question, choose properties, then tools). It will require a reboot. You can also manually delete temp files by typing %temp% at either run or search (depending on your version of Windows). You may find thousands of files in there. If you try to delete them all at one time you'll likely get a message about a file being in use. That's normal, just work around those (delete the oldest files first). After that, navigate up the directory tree and you'll find the history folder.

My water hardness varies. It was almost 19gpg in the summer, now it is 4. Maybe your water has gotten softer.

I wonder. If liquid fabric softener kills suds, does this mean that the detergent and surfactants have not been getting thoroughly rinsed out in the first place?

I will definitely go to my villages website and check on the status of our water. I know the hardness can vary here but it usually doesn't vary that much.

If worse comes to worse, I'll just go back to liquid fab softener, or wash everything in vinegar for a couple weeks and see if they just all need a good stripping.

I still think it is a little odd that I'm getting more suds in the rinse than in the wash. Maybe it is the difference in tempurature. Even my cold wash is set at a certain temp, but I think the rinse is set at whatever temp comes out of the tap.

I know from my experience as you have probably read, I found that from using 1/2 TBL liquid HE Tide and others was the culprit along with the fl washer not using enough water to rinse, I too didnt notice suds in the wash cycle as much as I saw in the rinse cycle, but after using tide he for about 4 months I had alot of soap buildup from using it, even Charlies soap using it for 2 months didnt change performance, I had switched to gain reg powder and it seemed to do better on the clothes, but I had quit using soap all together for 5 months on my towels and there was still suds untill I switched washers, I have no problem now.

I also ended up with really stiff towels, but finally I have nice soft towels again.

I dont remember what washer you have but I bet its not getting enough water to rinse the soap out.

I got a Frigidaire Affinity. I think you are right. I know there have been times I have had to completely restart the machine during the wash to get more water in it. I bet the rinse is malfunctioning too. I'll have to get the tech out here to take a gander at it. Most likely the sensor is screwy.

Thank you so much for bringing that up. It hadn't dawned on me till now that it was probably the machine. : D
