The Kitchen Table

I need some photos of the Olympic artwork...

You know those boards behind the events, that separate the athletes and venues from the audience? With the blue and green and white artwork on it? I would love to find some close ups of those, I might plan a little quilt around them and I need something visual to go by. I think the artwork is different but similar at each different sport, too. I love it. Blue and green together is one of my favorite color combos and we just love the Olympics.

I've googled and looked around some and come up blank, can anyone send me in the right direction? TIA!

There are some posters and stuff at the Olympic Store, if you click on the pics they get a little bigger (but not by much).

Casey, perfect! Thanks so much. The posters will suffice nicely, I'm just going for the illusion and not to copy, so this is great. I appreciate the help!

I used to hike that trail, to and past, Irely Lake up to Three Lakes a lot. Too bad you didn't have the time to hike the Skyline Trail to low divide and then down the North fork of the Quinalt River. Very nice pictures of the Cupressus nootkatensis growing there. You got very lucky on the nice weather. They don't call it a temperate rain forest for nothing. The little Ericaceae seedling might be a Taxus brevifolia. They do grow in the area. It's the winter grazing ground for the Roosevelt Elk. They trim a lot of the small trees, making them look like shrubs. Just north of Irely Lake and on up to where you cross Big Creek is one of the finest stands of Abies amabilis I've seen in the Olympic National Park. Nice picture of a Hericeum fungus! I found a lot of them in a Western Hemlock blow down in 1972 (10 years after the Columbus Day storm) near Mt. St. Helens before it blew up. My hiking partner and I packed out as much as we could carry. They ARE good! Thanks for sharing your trip.It brought back some fine memories. It's been three years since I hiked there, and over twenty before that. Mike

I have grown garden sage and it always gets messy looking in late summer. I'm in zone 6a and they behave like biennials here. After my plant's have bloomed they slowly deteriorated and died in winter. I don't grow it anymore because it gets so messy looking in the second year and I always have to get fresh new plants after the old ones bloom. The best you could do is trim it to maintain some kind of shape. You could maybe try rooting some of the trimmed cuttings to make new plants. I'm not sure if garden sage is classified a biennial, but in all my experiences growing it, the plants always get ratty, and go downhill after flowering.Sorry I couldn't give you a more hopefully answer.

Unfortunately, our local framing shop went out of business a few years ago and I don't like using online for this. So, I am relegated to Hobby Lobby or Michaels. But, I have found the personnel at both to have an impeccable eye for complementing artwork with matting. The man at our local Hobby Lobby has been there as long as the store, and always has great suggestions. They'll cut it as you wait, and I don't find them pricey at all. In fact, the local framer was at least 1/3 more in cost, maybe more. I still used and supported her until she went out of business, and you may want to find a small business owner. But, don't discount Michael's because it's a chain. You also won't have to worry about the mats denting or bending in transit like online. I also don't buy frames online because I prefer glass.

Kat, I love that one!

Great idea Flamey! My Mom's favourite colours were blue and green together. Our kitchen was decorated that way for years and when we tore the kitchen apart we found remnants of the old blue and green wallpaper. She also had blue and green sheer princess curtains in the kitchen and they were up there for years and years until the sun finally destroyed them. Even then she didn't want to get rid of them and put them away to keep. LOL

Oh, thanks so much, Kat. I've bookmarked those pages, too.

I am enjoying the Olympics so much, Fizz, and I KNOW that part of it is the lovely visuals from the little number things in white/lime/blue that the athletes wear with their number on it, to the backdrops behind the skaters and skiers as they wait or perform. LOL It's all about the art and colors, baby!

And Fizz, that's my mom's favorite color combo, too!
