I got the wrong mail today....

.....and I am so excited!

The package had the wrong name but right address so I opened it. It was a thick, glossy catalog from Rago Auction House. The catalog is for an auction in Feb that features 20th century arts & crafts, mid 20th to 21st century modern decorative accessories and furnishings.

I am looking forward to the eye candy and educating my eye about the artists from these eras.

I'll take this rare Charles Rohlfs 5-drawer dresser please. Bids start at $10,000.

EAH, if you plan on getting MORE hosta, might as well spring for the big bag of MiracleGro potting mix WITHOUT the moisture control in it. That will rot your hosta, who like good water but also like good drainage. I get a pot thats a nice size for the roots, and build a cone of potting mix in the center of it high up to the top of the pot. I then drape the roots like a wet mop around the sides of the cone, push down to seat the crown on top of the cone, and begin covering the roots with more mix. Make sure all the roots are covered, but the crown is not buried. Water gently and let the pot drain. Where needed top it back up with potting mix, and water again. Set the plant in the shade for a couple of days to get over the shock. It is highly recommended by Ken Adrian that you use some low tack masking tape (I use the blue stuff) to gather the petioles of the hosta together and wrap with the tape. This keeps them from flopping over, because once they flop, they will not stand up straight again. Also, if a leaf is torn, or a petiole/stem is damaged, do not break it off, but leave it be. It is doing its job unless it is brown and dead. June is a strong grower, so she will probably perk right up for you. So pleased that you have become enamored of the hosta. That's why I suggested getting BIG BAG of MiracleGro. I bet you cannot stop with JUST ONE hosta! :) (And I'm 2 miles south of I-10 in Mobile, lack about 20 miles being as far south as Houston is according to latitude. And I am familiar with the Houston weather. Good luck and happy growing.

That is very pretty, Terilyn....so sweet of your cousin to send it. What is that in the background with the peely paint? You know I love things like that. One of these days, we are going to have to meet for lunch at a restaurant near where you live...maybe Becca will join us...and you can show me your house. You mentioned I should see it. I could probably get some ideas for my house. We are hopefully getting ready to get started back to working on it.

This is the other one I got...of course I had to mark out 46 and write in "33"... nope Socks...definitely not for work wear...in fact I'll probably never wear them...one of these days I'm gonna make a t-shirt quilt out of my favorite ones!

Javachik, Feb 5th is the "Modern" auction, but you just missed the no reserve auction. The 2/5 auction is the MCM heavy hitters with the 4-5 figure estimates :(

I have been sneaking peeks at the catalog all day while at work. I keep thinking I'm going to stumble across an item that I grew up with. Don't know if that would please me or I would envision dollar bills floating out the window because my parents probably sold it at a garage sale.

MCM knowledge is something that I am lacking. I know of Eames, Edward Wormley, Mira Nakashima and after that.....nada.

Hopefully I'll become MCM fluent. And become af-fluent enough to afford all my favorites.

I live near the Rago Auction house in Lambertville, NJ. They regularly have lower end auctions too, when normal people stand a chance of winning a good find. David Rago and his wife are legendary around here and Lambertville is an adorable town, so if you get a chance, come on and visit!

Thank you judithn! I just did a quick image search of Lambertville and it is lovely! That combined with this phrase in the about us of Rago's makes the thought of a road trip even more appealing.

I really love going to Rago. Not that I've ever gotten around to bidding on anything. I'll probably go to the next auction's preview rather than to the auction itself.

OMG. They've got a couple of Nakashima beds I would...I don't know what I'd do. Nothing violent...I'm not that sort of woman.But I might THINK about it. And that Finn Juhl settee? GAWJUS LINES.

And the TABLES...I have a thing for tables...I've been forbidden to bring any more tables home.

It seems I have become a MCM enabler! I keep getting pulled to the Rago catalog like it's a magnet and I'm steel.

msjee, I just looked this up (you prob. knew this) and now I'm really a Nakashima fan!
