I wish someone had warned me that a case of strawberries, all 6 pounds worth, would give me 16 half pints of jam!because I still have another case in the freezer!

The produce market had them on sales 2 weeks ago for the amazing price of 3# for a buck. I had dear Dad clean them and pop them into zip bags, knowing I didn;t have time to process them that day. On Saturday I pulled one case and made RobinKates Strawberry Orange jam with Contreiu. Since I do a sugarless jam, I used the no sugar pectin to thicken it up. YUM! My next batch will be plain berry I think.

And the worst part is, that I rarely eat jams or jellies! Christmas gifts may be done!

I love jam! I'd love Robin's recipe if you have it on your computer. I was a canning fool this weekend too. The strawbery rhubard recipe in the pectin pack is great too. One of my favorites if you are looking for other options for those berries.

David, I haven't been checking here much but I happened to stumble on this thread. Enjoy!! Your canning on the other thread looks amazing. This year I have not made a thing except freezer jam as I entered a freezer jam recipe contest with a raspberry variation of this one.

RobinKates's Strawberry Jam with Cointreau and Drambuie

6 cups roughly chopped strawberries, not all ripe
Juice from 1 juice orange, peels, pits and pulp reserved
Chop half the peels and pulp finely and reserve, the other half should be roughly chopped and placed in a tea ball or cheesecloth bag with the pits
3 cups white sugar
3 Tablespoons Drambuie
1 Tablespoon Cointreau

Chop the strawberries and add to the pan once you have 2 cups of fruit. Add 1 cup of sugar and stir to combine. As you measure the fruit add it to the pan. Place remaining ingredients in the pan and cook until the setting point is reached. Ladle hot jam in to hot jars to 1/4 inch of the top and screw on lids and bands. Process in a BWB for 10 minutes for unsterilized jars and 5 for sterilized jars.

I've jokingly said before that if anyone is tempted to buy this they are welcome to come here and dig all of it they want. Truth is, I really don't want to contribute to the spread of this highly invasive plant in our area. Lowe's, Home Depot, Pike's, and many other places sell it if you feel you must have it. It might be fine in a pot if you're able to keep it from escaping, but then again, the stuff probably reseeds so you might want to think twice about doing that. In my yard it has spread throughout a very large area by underground runners. I have it coming up over 20 feet from where I originally planted it...The runners go deep and the roots break off easily so for me it's been impossible to try and control it by digging. Round-up and brush killer will not phase it either. Vsjo, sorry for highjacking your thread! I looked up the Oenothera speciosa. A beautiful plant that I will make sure and keep out of my yard.

Hi Prairiemoon. To see how much a folder holds you open Explorer, right click on the folder in question then click Properties. This will tell you the total size of the folder and how many files are in there. There is no way to tell how many files can fit on a CD simply because there are files of just a few kilobytes and other can be many megabytes. In future you might consider creating a new folder inside ÂMy documentsÂ perhaps Â (open Explorer, click ÂMy documentsÂ to highlight it, click File at the top, click ÂNewÂ click ÂFolderÂ. Type a name you wish to use. Now you can copy your photos into that occasionally doing the right click/properties thing on the folder name to check for overall folder size, stopping when you either have all the needed photos or capacity is reached. As you have 262 megs on the CD you can add about 438 more megs to fill it. You may get a warning about compatibility but continue on. I do and it is fine. No, you cannot delete anything from a CD once it is burned. Practise a little, you may make a few throw away disks but you will learn the right way. (Any I throw away I scratch across the medium a few times in case it gets picked out of the garbage Â unlikely but I am a bit cautious with family photos) All files burned to CD are ÂRead onlyÂ, they cannot be otherwise because you cannot alter them. You can copy any that need editing back to your hard drive but you will need to give it another name before being allowed to modify it. I generally add a number to the end if it is a name or a letter if the title is numerical. Again, once the CD is burned changes are not possible so the name remains the same. You can of course write what you like on the CD using a Sharpie or getting fancy with CD labels if you plan on doing quite a few. Labelling kits are around $20 Â and up for the kit and software or the opportunity to download software from the vendorÂs site. Using a Sharpie I write right across the middle of a CD or DVD so it shows through the window of my paper sleeves. I have no time or space for the plastic things CDs go in. I use any known brand of CD or DVD myself, I do not use off brands. Why risk failing? If the material is considered important enough to save then save it confident that it can be retrieved at a future time. I would not burn photos to a DVD simply because of the huge numbers capable of being burned. Of course if you really plan ahead and get all you photos lined up as you want them in folders and sub folders then it might be feasible. On that note, why are blank DVDs so much cheaper than blank CDs these days? Books to my mind are not the answer regarding computers. They are out of date before they reach the street at times and can be very expensive. Personally I am a big fan of Google. Type Âphoto editing tutorialÂ or what ever you need to know ending in ÂtutorialÂ and you will get thousands of pages come up. Look through those and find perhaps 3 that are written in a style you personally are comfortable with and save those to your Bookmarks/Favourites. I hope this helps and I have not bored you to tears, haha.

Thanks Raee, feel much better. A friend of mine told me the other day to start harvesting dandelions too lol. I couldn't take it anymore and ordered delivery from Kroger last evening. Salad stuff, light bulbs and a few other things. Just before they dropped it off I remembered potatoes. I forgot to order potatoes! Still waiting for test results.

Peppi, leave em in the freezer. You can make a cheesecake for Christmas or when the frost is on the pumpkin... I don't like jelly or jam either so it's a moot point with me (and Dick). He only eats the habenero gold.

Robin, thanks for posting the recipe. I really, really is good and you are so right about the orange bits being delicious.

Maureen, I think you are right in leaving them in the freezer but six pounds would cover a lot a cake. Then again, I can eat a lotta cake too!

Thanks for the recipe Robin! Sure hope to hear from you more often. Now that I think about it I might have tried this last year at Canny Camp. Sherry put out several jams for sampling during our stay. I'm thinking you sent a few for us to sample. It's almost been a year and my memory is not all that great. Good luck in your contest!

Sorry to take so long to respond. I get less time at the computer now as Sebastian is giving up naps. Although based on his behavior in the evenings it may be premature. sigh. He starts kindergarten in the fall so maybe if I time Julian's naps appropriately I will have more time at the computer.

I haven't been canning much this year although I did enter the ball Freezer Jam recipe contest. I find out on the 17th. A really close friend one a Hannaford recipe contest and she has been entering every recipe contest she can since then. She sent me the link to this contest.

The possible babysitting job did not work out so I am going to look into working at another store very part time. One night and one weekend day.

Glad to be missed!! i miss you guys.
