Annie's blueberry crisp recipe with a scoop of the new Reserve Flavors HaagenDaz Hawaiian Lehua Honey and Cream on it.

I think I just found treat Nirvana.

That is some seriously rich, decadent ice cream. It tastes almost caramel-y. And I thought the Pommegranate Chip was good, but this is the cat's meow.

(Not that Annie's crisp recipe needed any embellishment at all, but the ice cream was right there and I couldn't make up my mind which to have...so I had both!)

That does sound good! really good..I have a bit of the Blueberry Crisp left myself..hmmm to have it or Sol's Mango Sorbet..

I'll have to look for the Hawaiian Lehua.
The HaagenDaz Pommegranite Dark Chocolate Covered Limited Edition Ice Cream bars are Devine too...

It IS a daunting task, Brock. This year will be my first year for casting a ballot, and I'm a little freaked out over not being familiar with sooo many of the eligible cultivars. I can already tell you my ballot will not have nearly the maximum number of votes in any category. I almost feel like I'm punishing irises by not voting for them just because I'm unfamiliar with them or haven't been able to see them the required 2 years... Though even if I WERE familiar with every one, I think that would still be the case. My definition of "worthy of awards" is pretty tough. I almost wish there was another option on the ballot - votes for those irises one thinks are worthy, and voting NO for some irises that I've seen that in my evaluation, are definite no-go's. That way, there'd be some way to differentiate between not voting for something because I'm not familiar with it, and not voting for something because I don't think it should get an award. And the NO vote cancels one YES vote. So an iris might get 50 YES votes, and 5 NO votes, for a total "score" of 45. It *might* help out the lesser-known irises and those that really do grow well everywhere. 'Sea Power' would've gotten a NO vote from me. For me, it was a poor grower, bloomed ONE time on a very runty stalk with 2 buds (in a year when everything else bloomed fine), and finally croaked altogether. My experience with SP is not an isolated event... I've thought about writing this idea up for publication somewhere, but I'd have to reinforce my rotten-tomato shield first, I think. ;-)

Interesting read! The 1950s all-white kitchen "rang true" for me. I remember older relatives having kitchens like this, but I personally liked the 1950s colorful kitchen picture better. I can also remember kitchens similar to the 1960s bright kitchen, though I don't remember mismatched cabinets. The "Pretty Enough to Entertain in" (bad grammar aside) is a stranger to me. I've never seen anything like this in person, though it makes me think a bit of delft blue tile, which I love. The 1970s cheerful kitchen is very familiar to me. I knew many people who had these kitchens. I don't remember any kitchens in the 1980s that didn't have upper cabinets, but the clutter in these 1980s kitchens looks realistic. Lots of country knick-knacks is what I remember most from the 80s. Where is the Williamsburg blue and the mauve? Where are the geese? The 1990s "inviting kitchen" looks realistic -- all that clutter from the 1980's kitchen is still hanging around, in a slightly different form. The 2000s "Park Avenue" is something I see constantly in magazines and on the internet, but I personally know no one who has anything even remotely close. I don't even know any one who has white cabinets. Perhaps it's a geographical thing.

Thanks for all the kind and encouraging comments, I really appreciate it! When I do something more in the future that is 'presentable' I'll post again. Newhomebuilder, how awful for you to have lost your MIL's work in a fire! I sometimes wonder about that sort of scenario. The scientific illustrations were for things like technical papers in scholarly journals, a reference text, a couple magazines, and one in Encarta. It was all very exacting work, much different than the painting I posted above, for instance. For some projects I needed to use a dissecting scope just to see the subject. I worked with a scope over the span of about a year and my eyes seemed to be more susceptible to strain after all that. jakabedy, good for your husband! It takes a while for the ol' brain to locate those neurons again, but they're still there! They say that you have to keep challenging yourself as you age; use it or lose it, right! lynn melb, one of my first college art classes had a lot of women who had taken up art later in life and they were very motivated, worked very hard, and did some very nice work. Do post some of yours sometime.

Hi chicoryflower: I agree that would be nice. I have actually tried to think of a way of doing that--if the room were just a bit larger, and the door on the back fireplace wall were placed a bit differently, the addition of free standing columns along the division between the areas might work. I have tried to make free standing columns work with the current layout--there is just no way. However, when I repaint I will add columns around that door on the fireplace wall--that will give a sense of height from at least some vantage points. Also I have spotted a beautiful red vase (can't afford it right now), but when I can I think it would work on the cabinet that you see in the above picture to the left of the fireplace--a red vessel stands on the bookcase to the right, and I think this one will be about the same size. The red vessel on the bookcase helps the proportion there so I am hoping that a similar treatment on the left plus the columns, while not the perfect solution, could help. Love to see the pics of your aunts--I can always use a smile during winter--I do not like winter!

WOW, that sounds good. Thank goodness I don't have either one around, because I would be shoveling it in right now.

Oh geez. We don't even HAVE Haagen Daz here, I think it's a very good thing. I'm not a huge fan of ice cream but that warm blueberry crisp is so darned healthy that it just begs for ice cream, LOL.

Hawaiian Honey and Cream? Dark Chocolate covered Pomegranite? Now those I'd try, if I ever found them. Somehow Dairy Queen just doesn't seem the same....

I have been eating blueberry pie with nonfat vanilla yogurt. That's good too Annie! Not as good as the haagen daz vanilla ice cream and blueberry pie I had at my friends house, but good nonetheless.

Oh geez, I was going to make blueberry bundt cake to take to a friend's house Thurs. PM with whipped cream, but now I'm thinking crisp with some kind of sexy ice cream. Decisions decisions.

Here you go! (I made it again with blackberries and peaches (together).)

Blueberry Crisp
This is the only blueberry crisp recipe I've ever used, the one my grandmother used. It's not very sweet, which I like because I like the flavor of the berries better than the flavor of the sugar. It's really good warm with vanilla ice cream, but it's also good cold for breakfast (it's a FRUIT, Mom).
3 cups blueberries, fresh or frozen, unsweetened
2 tbls lemon juice
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup quick oats
1/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
Heat oven to 375. Arrange berries in ungreased square baking dish (8 inch) and sprinkle with lemon juice. Combine remaining ingredients until crumbly. (I use a pastry blender, grandma used two knives). Crumble topping over berries and bake until topping is lightly browned and berries are hot, about 30 minutes. Makes 4-6 servings.

My Notes: I increase the oatmeal by Â¼ cup and toss 1 teaspoon vanilla with the blueberries.

Apple crisp and ice cream was one of my grandmother's favorites. Best when the crisp is hot out of the oven.
