Imidan should keep indefinitely if it remains dry. It looses affectiveness if too much rain falls after spray- 2" is a wash off number but if a spray is a week old 1" will do it. You also have to be sure spray water is mildly acidic- best somewhere in the high 5's. Alkaline water reduces its affectiveness considerably.

"Shelf life" could be a couple of different things: The shelf life of the pectin itself (it's still in the box here): Ball Liquid or Powdered Pectins - they do expire and there is a "Best Used By" date on the boxes. Pomona Pectin - keeps indefinitely. The shelf life of the jams and jellies after they're BWB'd, but not opened: Ball Liquid or Powdered Pectins - These last at least a year. After that, the products are still safe to eat, but there may be changes in color, taste or texture. Pomona Pectin - same as Ball Pectins. After the products are opened and stored in the refrigerator: Ball Pectins (regular that uses a high proportion of sugar): These last the longest (I've had them in the fridge up to nine months with no visible spoilage or shange in taste or texture). Ball Pectins (low-sugar or no-sugar): I've never used these but probably a month or two (?) in the fridge. As sugar is a preservative, the lower the sugar, the less time you can store them safely. Pomona Pectin (low-sugar or no-sugar): The same as Ball low-sugar pectins. What I usually do is process low-sugar jams/jellies in small 4 oz. jars, rather than 8 oz. half-pint jars, so I can use them up quicker. Hope that answers your question.

What kind? I've used powdered pectin way past the expiration date with no problem. My liquid pectin (which was only two months past the date and kept in the fridge which is why I forgot about it) failed totally. Get much snow yet, LPink?

I just ran across this post.... Chlordane is an extremely unsafe chemical. It was used routinely in the past, BUT It has been banned for decades and is a well known carcinogen. This should be disposed of promptly and very safely. Call your town's environmental people and ask them about their disposal facilities or recommendations. Often towns will have a specific time or date for turning in such items for proper disposal. But by no means should you just throw it in the normal trash.
