Kinda rusty counter top grinder

Ladies and Gentlemen of the CF:

I have been helping a friend clean out the home of her elderly neighbor who passed away at the delightful age of 98. As a token of friendship, she has sent me home with a few goodies here and there, one of which is a old timey attach to the counter edge grinder.

I washed the grinder, etc. in hot soapy water along with a touch of green scrubby pad for surface rust. The grinder and attachments were then air dryed.

There are still visual signs of surface rust. Am I good to go with a coating of cooking oil or is this an item I should simply appreciate having due to it's history?

Mom used hers to grind cranberries at Christmas for celery and jello (OMG) salad and for a treat to us farm kids, grind a hunk of bologna, sweet pickles and mayo for school sandwiches. Long before fancy electric gizzmos.

How much rust is normal/un-acceptacle? Your thoughts?

PS: My waffle iron is a twin to Lou's. I will be devistated if/when it ever shoots craps.
