No, I just try to keep my portions reasonable.

Moni

I count calories and attend Weight Watchers and use the point system. But..I do check labels and the calorie content of different things. I have a friend who goes to WW with me and she never got into the point thing that they do...she counts calories and has been very successful doing that....what ever works :o)

No...I just watch my carb/protein/fat ratio.

Nope. I would not even know where to begin.

Trish

No.

Long ago, I decided to be comfortable with my weight, whatever it was. My family has been--well--fluffy for generations.

Interestingly, back in the days when I used to diet, I'd lose some weight, then I'd end up gaining it back, plus and extra 10-20 pounds on top of what I started at. Once I stopped worrying about it? My weight stayed constant--no downs, but no more ups, either.

And this last year, what with having 2 houses to fix up, a husband who's had a couple of health problems/surgeries, an aunt who had a stroke, I've actually been losing weight without even bothering to try. I'm running around more, eating less (counting pennies with 2 houses to support) and stressed out more--so the pounds are just melting off. I don't recommend that as a weight loss plan, but as long as it's a side of effect of this past year, I'm enjoying buying smaller jeans--LOL.

No, I eat anything I want, any time I want....except, I try to not eat at night.

I used to, back in the day. Got one of those little booklets you see at the grocery store checkstands. It really did help me lose weight. Since that time dozens of diets have come out, and I've tried many of them, Weight Watchers being the best. I've kind of given up on all that and just tried to eat smaller portions, better choices.

My friend's doctor recommends the "eat half" diet, which makes a lot of sense.

No I just try and watch my intake which got out of control the last year hence the 20 lbs I was carrying....so now I am down to just needing to lose 10lbs and I am happy......The great thing is my husband loves me fat or skinny and prefers me the weight I am now....I just like me weighing less.....Stacy

I am on weight watchers so I count points but I also watch my calories and sodium.

No, but I have years ago. Now I just eat as much as I can to try to gain, since I lost so much while on chemo.

Yes, somewhat. I won't bring high calorie foods home.
Have really been watching portion sizes (except for low calorie veggies) and have lost 12 pounds since the beginning of the year.

Back in the Seventies a guy wrote a book called "Counting Calories". It was a best seller. The concept of calories was a new thing for some people and sounded all scientific to them. The 'counting calories' philosophy somehow stuck in people's minds.

For good health it is more important to consider the glycemic index of individual foods. You just have to familiarize yourself with the foods and eat accordingly. You don't need a scale and a calculator to "count calories" or charts and graphs to check.

"Not all carbohydrate foods are created equal, in fact they behave quite differently in our bodies. The glycemic index or GI describes this difference by ranking carbohydrates according to their effect on our blood glucose levels. Choosing low GI carbs - the ones that produce only small fluctuations in our blood glucose and insulin levels - is the secret to long-term health reducing your risk of heart disease and diabetes and is the key to sustainable weight loss."

Here is a link that might be useful: Glycemic Index

I count calories, eat low GI, and stay low sodium.

While I am still overweight, my health is greatly improved - I am off cholesterol med, off HBP med, off gastric reflux med... and I no longer get migraines!

I count calories ,attend WW and do the old exchange system. It's what works for me. Too many loopholes in points for me. I eat a more balanced diet nutrition wise on the exchange program.

no..
I eat a variety of foods. And I still eat chocolate almost every day. I have basically been the same weight for almost a year. Before that I lost 25lbs by cutting out wheat, soy and corn. But upped my "fat" intake. I eat avocado almost every day, use only real butter, use coconut oil and EVOO.
I now limit my wheat because I feel better when I don't eat alot of it.
It's time to loose a bit more. I have to "stop" and regulate my weight/metoblism or I'd be a serious Yo Yo'r...

Terri--good for you to be able to keep your weight the same for a year. You're recipes always sound so good! You must have great will power.

I've gained this winter but spring/summer will help take it off.
