Granabelle, I'm sorry to hear about your dilema. Hopefully your DH can resolve things. It's frustrating nontheless, especially knowing how expensive RH is. -I'm just curious as to which size medicine cabinet and style light fixture that you have from RH? I also just recently ordered the cartwright recessed medicine cabinet and will need some sort of lighting to extend above it. If I might also ask, how great a depth (exension) would you suggest the fixture be to clear the molding? -TIA, DG

Re - buying lighting on ebay - during my total remodel last year I had one bad experience buying some lights from a company on ebay that turned out to be cheaply made chinese knockoffs, but that was early in my remodel process - a lesson learned. I also had one negative experience buying a vintage modern italian piece that was never sent to me - but ebay and paypal took care of that for me 100%. However --- Everything that said it was a RH product new in the original box was absolutely problem free and exactly what it was claimed to be. And a great deal. I also got a pottery barn light that I love via ebay - new in box.

According to the FTC, "the U.S. Customs Service of the Department of the Treasury requires country-of-origin marking on foreign imports as they are received into this country and until such time as the imported product is 'substantially transformed' in the United States or sold to the ultimate purchaser." So, if their lights are made overseas, they have to be marked with the country of origin. All you're asking the rep to do is read you the label. "Look for that phrase, 'Made in ...' - what's the next word?" If they want your business, why won't they answer? The rules for identifying country of origin are a bit arcane. If they're imported, textile products are required to be identified as such in catalogs and internet listings. This isn't true of light fixtures, AFAIK, but there's no prohibition on disclosing the country of origin. I suspect the answer is that Chinese goods are getting some bad press these days. Restoration Hardware doesn't want to own up to the fact that their lights are made by Chinese sweatshops, so they made up a bogus excuse. Up to you, but I still wouldn't trade with a company of that sort.

bkatz, who's the seller? I purchased 3 Restoration Hardware light fixtures from seeseemyplaymate and they came quickly in perfect condition. He/she/they sell a lot of clearance/discontinued Restoration Hardware merchandise on eBay. If you stick with the power sellers with high feedback ratings you should be fine. I also purchased a Kohler potfiller, soap dispenser, sink grid and air switches from various sellers. All merchandise was brand new as described and shipping was fast. Good luck! Erika
