I was cold at work the last few days, and decided I needed more warm tops to wear.

What a deal I ended up with.

3 cardigans, 1 100% Merino Wool, 1 100% Lambs Wool, and 1 60% Lambs Wool and 40% nylon

2 100 % cashmere pull overs

1 cotton turtle neck top

1 long sleeve undershirt

4 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of corduroy, 1 pair of jeans like pants in green and one pair of "not your daughters jeans".

1 fleece vest

1 wool jacket style coat

all together only 52 bucks!!

I should be set for the rest of the cold weather season.

Wow, great job Moni!!

Our ValueVillage prices are equivalent to WM, so I'd rather buy new. Goodwill here sells crappy, dirty smelly stuff.

Karen, I saw those plates on Ebay last year and really wanted some, but they were too much $$. So when I saw them on the shelf at Good Will, I had them in my cart in a nano-second!!! I couldn't believe that they were all 4 in the box and not broken or chipped or anything, You bet I was doing the Happy Dance!! Then when I found the hat plates, I was even happier because I had tried to find more last year, and couldn't. Oh Yeah, happy dance, happy dance!! Jeanne, glad the siding is done and you found some goodies too!! The carriage lights started out with the pumpkins, then last year I added the hats, and now the bows seem to make them complete. Jane, the center of the plates are the same, but the borders are 4 different ones. How ironic that we both found the same set, but you got the added bonus of the extra plate! Karen, that is one of the drawbacks for me to Ebay as the shipping often makes things too expensive. I was very excited over the price too!! Kath, have fun at the sale. I'll be on the golf course although I pretty well spent my allowance already for this week, LOL DG, that is where I saw them first and was totally turned off by the price. But, $4.24 is definitely in my range. Nana, I will be using the witch hat plates on my Witch's party tablescape. Punk, I always enjoy seeing everyone else's decorations too. Relax and enjoy. OMG, OMG, OMG, Joanna---that is the IDENTICAL table! Is it listed as a Milo Baughman?? I can't believe this--I'm only on my first cup of coffee and I'm already having heart palpatitations! I am so glad I decided to post on this site and that you happened to be reading! I don't think I ever would have known what I got, because I have limited knowledge of modern furniture. Reading everyone's delight at my serendipity is almost as much fun as finding this was! Here's the story: I got it at a nearby Salvation Army. I've been on vacation since Christmas so I've been indulging my thrift shop addiction (and it truly is!). Over the years I have found some incredibly fabulous things there but stopped going because about a year or two ago a new manager was hired who appeared to be robbing the place blind (this is not unusual at these thrift shops--sometimes corrupt employees sell all the good stuff out the back door). He and another antiques dealer who got herself a part time there no longer seem to be employed, and the good stuff is coming back out on the floor. I think successfully shopping charitable thrift shops involves persistence and tenacity. My house is truly full of treasures I've found over the years, yet any friends or family that I've directed to these stores scratch their heads and say they can never find anything. Maybe the stuff just finds me, because like a stray dog, it knows who will love it! Regarding the frames on the print, I think I do agree that I should leave them as is. I do agree with Flyleft and dillydally that they are part of the art--it's even more clear IRL. But if I were to paint them, I do like Les's suggestion of a wood tone from the burl. I think I'll leave them for now--they have a real mid-century bohemian feel that helps balance some of the elements I have in this room. Amy, I can't help but think of your gorgeous decor when I look at these red prints, so I am even more inspired to keep the original frame color. And yes, we should talk--I've been meaning to check out a couple of the places I think you're referring to. I also recently found a cool little consignment shop in your town that I was thinking of consigning some stuff to. Oh, what a way to start the New Year! Thanks everyone for boosting my excitement! I wish you all similar luck in 2009!

Thanks to all. Greenthumbfish, I saw that stencil at Hobby Lobby. I ended up passing on it because the repeat on the pattern was so small. I was afraid it might end up too busy. I wish they would have made a bigger stencil! Parma, I agree with you 100%. I think that day, my stiff upper lip was already starting to quiver b/c of the rest of the chaos I was having to be so strong about. Handling critique and suggestions (albeit harmless and trying to be helpful) that I had not solicited was just more than I could stand, especially when I thought I was pretty clear on the nature of the post. Again, it had nothing to do with the comments, and everything to do with the timing. Sometimes you just can't hear how you can be "better", especially when as you explained, "better" is so subjective to personal style. I will remember your words, though, and will make sure to laugh at myself as I count my accessories! Puna, I have to say I'm pretty dismayed as well. For the life of me, I can't figure out how removing those comments was necessary or helpful. (Yours and several others, including some of mine!) Ugh. LaFonda, yes, my stomach went into knots when the property manager called and said I needed to get over there immediately because water was "everywhere". I thought he was exaggerating. He wasn't. Ugh again. Joanie, I don't think I'll stop, but I think I may definitely change how I post photos. This post has served as very clear reminder of how some people think, and knowing I can't change that, all I can do is change how much of it I set myself up for. When I hear about taking truckloads of new stuff to the landfill ... I cry a bit. I live within a couple of miles of a "landfill" (double four-letter word for a "dump" - also a four-letter word, as you may notice). A couple of years ago the local owner of a "landfill" had its capacity licence increased from 9 million to 17 million tons ... and I figured at the time that I knew what'd be coming next, as the City of Toronto, 2.5 million or so, has been taking flack for years for shipping their garbage to a site near Detroit. A year or so ago Toronto bought this dump ... for $220 million. They've been shipping something like 140 semi-s a day over the border, and will soon ship them next door. The site is right beside the freeway from Toronto to Detroit, so I expect them to build a new exit ramp ... right into the dump! Could you spare a tear or two for my predicament? ole joyfilled (usually) P.S. Being frugal (having helped folks who'd left their former lives in just the clothes that they wore, get their lives back together in an area recently visited by war), I hate seeing useful things scrapped. And did so long before the recent furore over the expansion of the local dump. o j

The GWs around here are way over priced and the stuff looks like it came out of a dumpster! About the only thing you can find for cheap are books. But then again the library is free...HA! I had wanted to buy some oval plates and looked, GW wanted $12.99 each for some junk they had...went to the Correll outlet store and got exactly what we wanted NEW for $4 each! HECK even Walmart had them for $7.99!

The pricing on most items in my Goodwill is all over the place. Almost anything in a package (no matter how beat up) is priced as you would buy it new. They had a small remote control toy for a young child that was marked $50! I do find some good deals (especially on clothes) in there but I always have a good laugh at some of the prices. I went to the Goodwill in a more populated area and their prices were even more ridiculous.

Of course, nothing beats yard sale prices. I am anxiously awaiting yard sale season.

Wow Moni...you did good..

Do your stores have a 'color of the week' that is 50% off? Our stores here in IN do, and the local one changes their weekly color on Sundays, making it the best time to find goodies at 1/2 off their regularly tagged prices.

One store takes all of the things (clothing) that has the color of the week barb on them, and places them on special racks in the aisles, making it easy to find the 1/2 price stuff. I wish they would all do that.

The Good Will store here has 75% every Sunday and Monday on certain coloured items. Today I got a convection oven for $5.00 by Cuisinart, excellent condition.

You DID score! In all the visits to goodwill and value village, I've found only two tops. Most of the stuff looks like 80's garents that are smelly, stained and should have been put in the dumpsters.

My DD has had better luck buying things at the local consignment shop rather than at GW. Sometimes, the original store tags are still attached, but they're being sold for a fraction of the original cost. Even designer name clothes are often on the racks.

Moni, you got some incredible buys! You'll be stylish and warm, too. :>)

Chemocurl Our Goodwill has the color code tags each week but they are not 50% off...they are 99cents.

Our Goodwill is always clean and looks like you are shopping in a store. But sometimes the prices are as high as shopping in a dept. store...or even higher. You really have to watch the prices.

I like to buy books there. That's my first stop when I go there. Paper backs (I like "Love Inspired" suspense romance book which are christian based)
They are 59cents.

Moni...we could have a ball shopping together...we wouldn't be fighting over the same size....LOL 8)

wow..you must have hit it just right..my pal in cinnci alway is finding great deals...

in the 90's it was the "hot" place to shop for the hs girls...dd came home with some really nice pieces..but they had to hit several stores to get the best buys...

The thrift stores here in Pierre SD and Biamarck ND are all to overpriced. They dont have bargain days like yours do except in Pierre they have 25cent clothin on the last Saturday of the month. I dont understand why if everything is donated they think they have to charge the prices they do. Plus almost all of the help is volunteer. In Bismarck I know some of them have warehouses full of stuff that they have to pay rent on. Wouldn't it make more sense to sell it cheaper and get rid of more things then pay for storing it. Who decides what these prices whould be in the first place.
