How do I do a search for specific saved sites?

I tend to save a recipe on a site to my desktop then drag it to a folder. Now I have all these sites in my folder, automatically in alphabetical order. e.g. chicken piccatta.

If I want to look for a recipe that I know is a Fine Cooking one, but don't know what it's called, there's no search button. Hmmmm this is not the best method for me, I see. There is no method, really. I just wanted to save the recipes till I got around to trying them. I don't put them on a Word, or Google documents first. Maybe that's the answer???

Jas I do the same, and was quite proud of myself for being organized. Ha til I wanted something. If you use the search on your computer down in the bottom left, just under all programs and type in an ingredient or the name of the recipe, every one that you have put or typed in folders on the computer will show up on the top and then the others will show below. It is a pain as you can only open one at a time then you will have to do it again after opening something, but it is most likely enough to jot your memory as to which one you want. Does this make sense to you? Hope it is what you were asking.

3J's, I'm glad I'm not alone!!! Ha, I was very proud of myself too!!!!!!

Why can't there be a simple Search, along with the edit, view etc etc.? Is that too much to ask?

kim0201 -- I've been hoping someone with more insight would respond to your post. First, I must commend you for your disciplined investment strategy. The most important thing is to save regularly, and you've been doing that and investing safely -- you are very wise. I purchased some I-bonds in October 2001. I've been very pleased with the return, but the fixed rate was 3%. Rates had dropped dramatically from May 2001 to October 2001, so I had the advantage of knowing that the fixed rate would likely not see those levels again for quite some time. Because the fixed rate is only adjusted semi-annually, you can lock in the rate that was in effect six months prior -- an advantage if rates have fallen. The inflationary rate has been disappointing at times. They use core inflation, so food and energy aren't calculated into the equation. When I've gone in to check the new inflationary rate, I've been surprised that it wasn't higher. My inclination is to not invest in I-bonds now because the fixed part of the rate is low. I believe rates will go up (not immediately, but within the 5 year holding period) and while I believe that inflation will rise, too, the fixed rate portion can really hold back your return. Having said all of that, your strategy of dollar cost averaging is much more effective than trying to time the market like I'm doing. However, I don't invest regularly in Bonds -- just sometimes when the circumstances are appealing. I hope someone else here will provide you with more useful information. Keep up the good work!

If you start typing into the search field above you’ll see it changes from Search in Gardenweb to Search in Seed Exchange. That’s how you search within this forum. That won’t search member’s seed lists. You used to be able to do that with Google, but with recent changes - I don’t think that works. I was very well aware of how to do it and have been doing it since forever, but today it did not work for me. It always worked for me on GW, but since I can no longer access GW and am forced to use Houzz, it does not work for me. I'm using Firefox and Windows 10 on a desktop computer. Thanks, Carol, for suggesting Chrome. It does work for me on Chrome, and so I guess I'll have to start using that browser for GW, since I cannot access it on Firefox.

I always just go to print on a recipe so it shows it in plain text format then copy and paste it into a word doc in open office. If there was not a print option for text only just click on Edit at top and then paste special and select unformatted. Title by the name of the recipe and type in the url on the recipe. I then put all of those into a folder on my computer called Recipes. When I need to find a specific one I can search by ingredient or by name by going to the search option at the top of the open recipes folder.
You can get some free recipe programs also that work well.

I just print off the recipes as I find them. Yea, I have a gazillion recipes lying around the place.

BUT, what I'm wondering is, when you put them into a folder, can you set up an index and put the name of the recipe and it's source into the index, alphabetically or by meal or by type of food (kind of like a recipe book), at the same time? I know it's a 2-step system but then when looking for a recipe you can just go into the index and perhaps the name of the recipe will tweak your memory. However, you may have hundreds of recipes then it's still cumbersome.

when I find a recipe I want I copy & paste it into notepad then print it out.
I keep my recipes in a notebook after I print them

You could always go to weebly and make your own recipe book (website) then you would have it when you need it like "Our Recipes" at the ktgatheringplace. No wasted paper and no cost, just a little time.

I have folders in my email, and when I want to save something, I email it to myself, then put it in the appropriate folder.
