OT: How do I search for my previous posts and responses?

I tried finding this answer in the FAQ and other places but no luck. How can I list all of my posts and responses? I responded on a post a few weeks ago and would like to find that but am having no luck with searching. Thank you very much.

I go to the bottom of the forum and type my user name in the search box. I can usually pull up most of my threads that way.

that said, this forum software is very archaic. I take that back, it's beyond archaic.

Thanks, Buffettgirl. I may need to change my user name. When I search for try_hard it brings back every post in which someone used the words "try" and "hard".

At the bottom of the forum page just above the message box is the Search box. Type in your name, and everytime your name appeared in a thread will result whether you posted yourself or someone mentioned your name. That will probably be many pages for you. This includes anytime someone mentioned Rutgers University since it's the same as your name. So it will be one of the results whether you posted to that thread or not. To find something more specific and narrow your search to get fewer threads to look through, try to remember an odd word that you or someone else typed. If I were to look for this thread, I would type either "oblivion" that you used or "notifications," "default," or the word "search" that others used since those words wouldn't be found in many other threads.

Well, I posted diagrams with detailed information about how we use our kitchen, traffic patterns and the layout of the entire house. I posed specific questions and concerns. I gave family make-up, cooking habits, yada yada. All the things people usually ask for. I did everything recommended to get responses and I got one. One! Like the OP, I have been reading here for months and have been contributing for about two months so that I'm giving back as well. Hoped it would give me some goodwill. Nada. I was so excited to finally post my plan and couldn't wait to wake up this morning to start reading responses. My post is now one away from scrolling to page 2. I'm very disappointed. Will bump regularly for a few days and hope for something. Sorry to whine. I needed the vent.

Hi there, I just wanted to respond to this post since I emailed someone that didn't necessarily have their email address on gardenweb. Sometimes when I search for certain things, like "white cabinets," a ton of posts with pictures of kitchens that do not necessarily appear in finished kitchens blog show up. Many times these are pictures off of photobucket. In one particular instance, I went back to find those photobucket pictures to show my husband, and I simply searched in google "GW's screen name kitchen" His or her email came up on google, and I emailed them asking if they minded sharing where they got their cabinets since they are local to Chicago, where I live. I would not be offended if someone emailed me asking me that, and so I didn't think anyone else would be offended either. Anyway, I just wanted to share how it is I came upon getting someone's email...actually quite unintendedly. hth, Pebbles81

How do I find my previous threads?

Option 1: On the page that lists all threads, scroll down to the bottom of the list and type your name in the "Search" box. (Use the Search box at the bottom of the list, not the top of the page) If you just want to search the Kitchens Forum, select the "This Forum" radio button (it should default to selected). If you want to search all iVillage/GardenWeb Forums, select the "Entire Site" radio button. Select the "Search" button The search results will include all threads you started, posted on, or are mentioned. If you selected "This Forum", only the three Kitchens Forum sites will be searched (three sites: Discussions, Conversations, Gallery) If you selected "Entire Site", all GardenWeb sites will be searched Notes: Only somewhat recent threads will be retrieved (last year or two, usually). If you're looking for a very old thread, see Option 2. iVillage/GardenWeb uses "indexes" for searches. However, they only refresh/update the indexes once every 24 hours (sometime overnight). This means that you will not be able to find threads started today - you will need to wait until the next index refresh/update is run. However, Google is refreshed continually, so use Option 2 if you're looking for a thread started today. Option 2: Go to Google.com (or other search engine) and type the following in the search box: newdad site:ths.gardenweb.com The results will be similar to "Entire Site" from Option 1 but will include cached versions of old threads. I use the search method buffettgirl suggests above when I need to find a post, but because your username is a common phrase you'll come up with way too many results...

I think I found the solution (only 34 matches on entire site and 15 on Kitchen forums)!

Try the search using: "try_hard (My Page)"

Be sure to include the quotes.

Your name printed as "Posted By" in the title of your post is "try hard", with no underline in between the two words. Can this make a difference?

Also, if you're looking for something that's expired from GW, go to Google and look for

"try_hard" site:ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath

You'll find things that are still on GW, and other things in the Google cache that have expired from GW. You'll have to click on "chache" under the link on the search results page.

yup, tou would think with all of the ad revenue they get --esp. from those annoying drop down ones, that they could get a current message board. if i start a thread or have a particular interest in one that someone else started, i end up saving it to favorites for a bit so i can actually find it again!

I use Firefox with Adblock Plus and I never see even one ad. I recommend it highly.

You'd think that they could have a quote feature too! ROFL. seriously, this is the worst excuse for a message board I have ever seen. come on GW - its 2007. Not 1991.
