Theresse, I think you are missing the easiest solution of all! Don't ever hand wash dishes!! There! Problem solved. My bill will be in the mail.... ;-P I had a similar problem, and played with the bump out for about a week, trying to get all those variables right: back comfort (since no toe kick with vintage cabinets), spout reach, counter corners resting on the lip in a way that looked pleasing to my eye. My cabinet guy thought I was an OCD loon! (Which I am, but that is between me and my doctor. Not my cabinetmaker.) I have the chicago faucet with the 12" double hinged spout. It wasn't my favorite spout, but the length was right. Actually, if I remove the extender piece, the straight part that only reaches 8 or 9 inches was the most period appropriate. That is the style one sees the most on the original kitchens in "Bungalow Kitchens" (I assume you have that kitchen bible!). We also have one of those (1929 original) in our garage. But those are paired with the traditional tiled-in sink, the back of which goes all the way to the backsplash. They are way too short for farm sinks. So I went with the 12 incher. I love that it reaches the edge of my drain. My previous faucet couldn't be directed right into the drain due to misalignment, and it always bugged me. But the gooseneck sure is prettier! These Shaw's sinks are a marriage of compromise. Think of the sink like a husband. So his faucet length isn't as long as you'd like. Is it a dealbreaker? Nah! The important thing is to go into the relationship with your eyes open.

I have had my fireclay sink with a garbage disposal for more than a year. I have 3 teenage sons who are NOT gentle and I use the sink and disposal multiple times a day. After reading some negatives about fireclay, I have put on bright lights and readers to see if there are any hairline cracks, scratches etc. - and after 15 months - NOTHING. The sink still looks brand new. My contractor was careful not to over tighten the disposal - and I use sponges designed not to scratch and softscrub when needed - but the fireclay surface is so smooth and easy to wipe clean. I chose the Alfi Shortwall because I had limited space, wanted a double sink - but also didn't want pan handles sticking out. It is an ideal solution. At the time I purchased the sink, they did not make custom grids, but after reading some negatives about fireclay, I bought cheap rubbermaid grids from Amazon.com. They have been awesome and have provided me with a lot of peace of mind. Bluebath now carries custom grids for my sink, but I really don't see the need. The rubbermaid grids are hinged for easy access to the drain/disposal - and after more than a year, they still look great. I pop them in the DW occasionally to sanitize them. You'll find a variety of strong opinions about this issue here. :-) I've had both positive and negative reveals in my main kitchen sink and absolutely, hands-down prefer the positive. It's certainly not a dirtcatcher compared to the kind of gunk that built up underneath the counter edge on the negative reveal. The fact that granite isn't polished on the underside possibly added to the tendency for unseen gunk to stick, but either way it was very hard to clean, requiring me to crane my neck under there (and always finding it dirtier than I'd thought it was, ack). The positive reveal is fabulous -- it's as handy as the negative for sweeping things in -- unless you really pull the counter opening back and expose the entire curve of the sink edge, water and food will not stay there, they drip down. A quick swipe gets it clean when you're swiping the sink walls anyways. In my experience, I definitely find it vastly more sanitary. Post a photo of the copy of the approved plan they were supposed to build to. Does it show deeper sides with the adjacent counters butting into them? Enough room for 24.375 plus the 2 inches behind so that the sides of the refrigerator BOX can be installed flush with the front of the cabinetry? Normally a cabinet shop would make this allowance or at least go over the options and differences. But if someone else did the design and it was adhered to, you don't have much to stand on. Also, is the opening the correct height because the hinges not fitting into the opening (like the photo above) can keep it from going back as well? Did you by chance consider another refrigerator that would fit properly? That might be the easiest and most economical way to address the issue. Switch them up and sell the first one. And to the guy that commented about "custom shops" ordering components, this is a common practice throughout the industry. It's very rare to find a cabinet shop that builds every part of a cabinet anymore and as long as what is ordered is of acceptable quality and fits, what's the problem?
