Show me furniture you have painted black or white

I have inherited a dining room table and chairs from the 1960's that are wood, I would like to paint these either black or white, Ethan Allen stlye with distressing. Please show me the items that you have painted and let me know what colors and types of paint you have used, I plan on using Benjamin Moore paint. Thanks.

What type of decorating style do you have? Both colors work well with many but black gives things a more classic look. Black will also help hide imperfections and things like that more than white.

If you do a search for black painted furniture through google or something you will find LOTS. Also check out HGTV's Rate My Space...do a search for black furniture.

I'm currently working on painting our new headboard that DH made out of an old door black but it's not finished yet!

Here are the bookcases and desk my dh built painted in black. We originally painted them white (they are a pine wood) and you could see the grain and nots. Then I got brave and decided to paint them black. I love how they look!!

He also made this little shelf for my little girl's toys in our front room... I painted it black as well..

The pics are small and not close up, I know. But hopefully you get the idea. Can you post a picture of the table and chairs??? I am curious what it looks like!! I used Olympic paint in a semi gloss for the furniture btw.

Oh, I didn't know that Chambrey was light blue, thanks for the fyi. I'm sorry they didn't help at the paint store, I would definately try another and I understand about the stripes, it was just a thought. Since you mentioned you want to leave your options open for bedding changes, I would say go for a warm low key beige that has a yellow base to it. Some have a pink base and that wouldn't be so good. A color I've put on my walls and have already talked about in another thread is Raffia Cream. It would go with the blues beautifully. You can find a sample card of it at the big box. :c)

Buffalotina here... When I remodelled my kitchen I already had a white fridge (Amana, nothing fancy) and a white Miele DW which I absolutely love and both were fine and not ready for replacement. The fridge is tucked away out of sight in the breakfast nook and looks OK there because there are no cabinets and the other stuff in there is utility white wire shelving, racks etc. As you see I did the Blue range. I agonized over whether the white DW would be OK but I decided to go ahead with it rather than trying to panel it or anything. My rationale was that as you look at that wall the backsplash is white and the white DW is also in the vertical plane and so I think it looks fine. I also have the small freestanding white cabinet that stands in the vertical plane. Also my cabinets are a very yellowy cream (Brookhaven French Vanilla) and so there was no problem with white on white where the whites might not look good together. That all said if and when I replace the DW and fridge I am tempted to go stainless... but it will probably all depend on what fridges are available at that point. Right now I am lusting over a Liebherr....and that is only in stainless... and when push comes to shove I may not be able to bring myself to spend that much on a fridge. I think I would be inclined to go with what looks more period for the 1915 house...and perhaps showcase the white vintage range and keep it the only white appliance? Good luck!!!

My Mom's cabs are Antique White and she opted for a high contrast with BM Rusty Nail in a flat Aura finish. There were a few different reasons she went this way: her kitchen doesn't have any architectural details other than the the soffets which are directly against the cabinetry so she decided to play them up she had a very dated white on white kitchen which she wanted to move dramatically away from without breaking the bank she has no natural light in the kitchen This was the old kitchen: This is the new kitchen in progress - 2nd try at countertops is today and there will be a low contrast mosaic backsplash in off whites and beiges so not a lot of paint is going to show and where it does it is directly juxtaposed to a much lighter vertical surface (cabs and backsplash): Photos were taken at night so everything is reading a little darker than they are in real life.

Here's a sneak peek of my new sunroom/gameroom. It's a dark, dark blue. It was supposed to be a dark charcoal grey, but the paint chip didn't show how much of a blue undertone it had. I like it though. I'm dying to use the Pergo Blueprint laminate and this might be my chance.

Sorry I can't post a picture right now since in the midst of a basement renovation the cable thingy for the camera has gone missing. The table and chairs have very straight contemporary type lines so I'm thinking with this set black might be better.

We have some chairs left from a 1960's blond veneer dining room set we got when we were first married. I had them painted a white (BM Impervo in Acacia white) along with other chairs we've aquired. I upholstered them with black and white fabrics, (covered with clear vinyl---I have 3 kids)and I think they work well with our black dining table (we didn't paint that). I like the combination of the painted black and white together.

Here is a pic of my kitchen cabs we painted the same color, truer representation of the white, more cream than lighting in dining room.
