Best lighting strategy for low ceilings

I'm roughing in the electrical for my finished basement right now. The house is generally being finished as a modern interpretation of mission/craftsman. Meaning I'm not trying to pretend that it's 1920, but I appreciate the simplicity and honesty of the craftsman aesthetic.

My basement ceilings are 7.5' high. I have two bedrooms, a hall, a bath, and a laundry.

Because the ceilings are low, I don't think it's a good idea to use ceiling mounted fixtures. That leaves me with either recessed or wall mounted lights.

The rest of the house will use a lot of low voltage cans. Do you think that is appropriate for a low ceiling? If not, does anyone have any suggestions for how best to light bedroom/office space with wall mounted fixtures?
