Also the Mad Housewife's wine is a good giggle and an OK wine.

I've seen that one, but having been burned on buying wines for a cute name, I avoided it! LOL

I didn't do the label design, I did the penguin illustration and other illustration details. A wonderful package designer named Rae Huestis did the actual design and direction.

Alexa - have you looked at all for the wine I emailed you about? The Rosenblum Gallagher Reserve Black Muscat (2006)? Anyone - if you can find this fantastic dessert wine anywhere you are in for a treat!

Not a fan of Muscatel... but have tasted the wine at a tasting...
Very very sweet..was pretty good with the pound cake..sells for under $10 a bottle around here..

It's Black Muscat....not Muscatel. Two different wines, two completely different tastes and different types of grapes

I think you will find that Muscatel wines are made from the Muscat grape.

ann t - the link you provided was for the same wine of newer years 2007-2010. Surely you understand that wines of different years have different tastes and qualities.

And when the good vintages run out - the stock that is left cost a little more - because it was of better quality.

Teresa, you do understand that the 2007 to 2010 means, that the best time to DRINK the 2006 vintage is between 2007 and 2010. Not that it won't still be good for a few more years, depending on how the wine is cellared.

Dessert wines tend to hold up well to aging because of the sugar content. Muscat, Moscato. I'm no expert but they are the same grape by different names. There are many cultivars of Muscat grapes. The wine is called Muscatel or Moscatel or not. Pass me the bottle, please.

Moscato is one of the few wines that I'll actually drink, so I'd be happy and not even know whether it was a good vintage or a bad one.

I'll look for that one. So it's a white wine or not?

As for Pinot Evil, Elery bought a bottle and said he didn't care for it, he really DID think it was evil. (grin) Couldn't prove it by me either way, although I didn't try it mixed with gingerale.

I think taste is subjective, and so what someone might love someone else might dislike. I drank TWO glasses of a Sparkling Moscato that I bought once and Ashley drank the rest. Elery wouldn't drink it for any reason, said it reminded him of 7-Up, and he won't touch the ice wines either, although I think they aren't bad.

I tried to find a new Pinot Grigio day before yesterday and it turned awful (seemed greasy? is the best description I can come up with. UGH!). I'm glad your try turned out wonderful Alexa!

Annie? Mixed with gingerale? I can't figure why one would do that. Is that a take on a spritzer (i.e. in place of the club soda)?

Rob, I just don't like wine, and I've tried and tried. I still try it occasionally, thinking maybe I'm missing out on something yummy. Invariably, I still don't like it, LOL, but I can drink it if it's sweet enough.

So, I make sangria with wine and gingerale and fruit or I mix wine half and half with Diet Gingerale or Diet 7-Up, because I hate to "waste" a bottle if it's opened and I won't cook with it because then I don't like to eat whatever I cooked with the wine.

Too bad I can't buy very many wines in those tiny little one serving bottles, then I could continue to "taste test" and not have to deal with a big bottle.

the only wine that I've ever been able to drink a bottle of is Moscato (although we usually use the first half of the bottle in Italian sausage and then I only have to drink the second half) and Ice Wine, which usually comes in a much smaller bottle...

Oh Annie, you're not missing out on something yummy if it's not yummy to you. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't particularly like any alcohol, right? Knowing you, IMHO I'm thinking that there are probably dozens upon dozens of other things on your "don't like" list that would prove more convenient for you to learn to like. Let's start red sauce based Italian food? As for alcohol, it's expensive (esp once you get a taste for the good stuff), it's no good for you, and you won't feel like going to the farm as early. Why bother? ;-)

FOAS, you're right, of course. It would be much easier to try to learn to like olives and red sauce and pizza, but I keep trying those things too, thinking that so many people like them, I must be missing out on something!

BUT.....Elery would like to open a bottle of wine and not have to drink the second half the next day, LOL, and he just can't convince me to share it. Now, the fact that I don't really like wine is very convenient when we're doing the winery tours and I drive, but when we're just at home either he has to drink an entire bottle or he has to drink half the next day, or we have to invite my mother over because she's a red wine drinker.

So, I keep trying. But you're right, I haven't really found any alcohol that I like very much. I tried Cathy's Limoncello and cranberry juice and it was OK, but I didn't want very many of them. I've been known to drink a very tall Screwdriver but it's mostly a waste of good orange juice.

Still, I have family members who like wine and some other alcoholic drinks, so I keep trying and I try to keep things on hand for guests who want some. Who knows, someday I may wake up with an insatiable craving for spaghetti and meatballs in marinara with a glass of Chianti.

Hey, it could happen, I learned to love peanut butter, LOL.

dcarch - I loved warm sake until about fifteen years ago or so when "they" said that serving it warm was just a ruse to get amateur Americans to swallow a bad product. What truth there is to that I can't say. But since then I've drank it cold and far prefer it that way. The power of suggestion, huh? I'm not above admitting I succumb to it here and there, LOL!

AMEN TO THAT! I went over a decade without eating any manner of raw fish after a bad sushi experience that involved warm sake..... hurling off a balcony is not going to endear it to anyone.

I can finally be at the same table with sushi and sashimi.... but the warm sake is going down the drain.

Yup, I've tried warm sake. Cold sake too. They were both relatively icky, I'm afraid.

Again, taste is subjective, not objective. What I love others may detest, and what they love I may find repulsive. It's all good because it would be a boring darned world if we all liked the same things, but I'm never making dandelion wine again. Yup, that was REALLY icky, even worse than warm sake and I don't think ANYONE liked it!

I was at a wedding once where the groom was Japanese. They had a tower of sake boxes to use when toasting the couple. It was great fun to watch the Americans spill it all over the place as everyone tried to drink from a straight edge. I was a beat behind and successfully copied a couple who tilted it to a corner before drinking. The best part of the wedding was the amazing sushi bar.

I should admit that I like smelling warn sake, but not drinking it.

And actually Warm sake is not warn, it is almost hot in the Japanese restaurants I have been to.
