Recipe amnesia

Dontcha just hate it when you read a recipe, sometimes even cut it out or C&P if it is electronic, or save the site to favorites, and then when you want to make it you can't find it anywhere! Not just that I can't find it, I can't even remember anything about it except it had chicken thighs and it sounded really awesome and I saw it in the last week.

I have used the feeble search on this forum (Holy Schmaltz we have a LOT of chicken thigh recipes here!), searched My Documents, reviewed and checked my internet history for the last week and nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. AAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!

I can't even remember what ethnicity the recipe was.... it could have been Indian, Korean, Italian, or ???????? I can't remember any other ingredients, or side dishes I thought would work. I can't remember anything about what I was doing when I saw it either.

I HAVE RECIPE AMNESIA!

Sigh.

Shall I just invent one....and send it to you and say "here it is!"...you won't know the difference will you? LOL!
If you don't remember what ethnicity nor any ingredients....why just go with something....anything!

I've seen that post elsewhere... if it is original, well done. ;-) Maybe we should start a garden prose thread? Gardening is a process of ongoing education & experimentation. Hopefully, each year you improve your soil, discover a new technique, or find a new variety, to make things easier next year. Sometimes it's as simple as learning what _not_ to do. Eventually, you get better at it, and the "fun factor" increases. Chatting with other gardeners helps you get there faster. But there is a saying: "Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you." Nowhere is this more true than in gardening. To be a gardener is to realize that some things you can control - and some you can't. You can do everything right, only to lose to foul weather, pests, or disease. After one of those years, when "the bear got you", it can be really frustrating - doubly so if it was your first experience. But there will also be overwhelming successes; and sometimes, these can come in the midst of other failures. When I plan my summer garden, I diversify... some crops to thrive on warm weather, some that will tolerate cool. In any given year, there will be both failures and successes. I learn from the failures, and revel in the successes. Don't expect total perfection, because Nature seldom works that way. Each year brings new challenges; but if you have the will, everything from hail, to deer, to SVB can be dealt with. Last year, I lost all of my Hubbard squash to borers & squash bugs... this year I covered the plants with Remay until they bloomed, and it appears that I will have a bumper crop. Deer destroyed my greens, and raccoons my corn, until I put up an electric fence... no trouble since. For each bad year (we've all had them) there will be incredibly rewarding years as well. Take heart, keep trying... and feel free to vent. ;-)

Rusty, It is really, really good. And it even looks like the picture! Given I usually fail completely at pastry, I'm quite pleased. I did make two small changes. I added a bit of ginger to the apples and increased the cardamom in the struesal to 3/4 teaspoon. Al, it's not as complicated as it looks. The instructions are just very specific. Trust me, if I can make it, anyone can.

Sol, that's basically the same recipe I was mentioning. Since I was doing this at home for a guest, I left out the coffee and used just enough milk to cook the pumpkin and other ingredients. That got rid of that nasty grainy textures. Then I put it in the fridge so my guest could use it like a syrup. She used double-strength brewed coffee and warmed the half-and-half in the microwave whenever she wanted a cup. Then she buried the whole thing in whipped cream. She was more after the pumpkin and milk than the coffee, so she was happy. The rest of use could then drink plain black strong coffee, so we were happy. It worked. The base tends to get a little funky after three days, though. At the store, I just did it with the espresso machine for each drink. Much easier. Barnmom, I forgot to tell you that I have selective amnesia about that topic. These days I am simply a picky consumer.

woodnymph2, I spent vacations on the Outer Banks for several years and loved the area. I am now in a charming seaside town in Washington State. I recently moved here and have found a corpse. Oh, and did I mention that I can now see ghosts and that one of them wants me to solve his murder, which was over a century ago? In an alternate life (book) I'm a tough, dedicated, hot (and not just beacuse there's a heat wave) NYC detective stuck with an irritating journalist following me around. I don't know whether to kill him or maybe, just maybe, admit there's an attraction. Bur first I've got to solve two murders before there are more.

Okay - so you have done all of the electronic searches possible. Stop and think....what magazines have you picked up in the last week...at home, in a doctor's office. What about the daily paper....do you get it?

Thanks everyone.... no it wasn;t Sol's Caramel Chicken, and like you I really dont care for chicken thighs, but they were $0.99/lb this week so I bought 5 lbs thinking I would make stock out of some of them and use the rest in _____________ for DH and the boys.

If I ever do figure it out, I will let you all know LOLOLOLOL!

My Cooking Light magazine for July had several neat recipes for chicken thighs..do you get cooking Light?

Nope - no Cooking Light, no daily paper. I do get Bon Appetit and Food & Wine but it wasn;t in either current issue.

Part of my problem is I have cookbooks and back issues of BA and F&W all over the house. There is a stack next to my bed, another stack in my FL room, a stack next to my favorite chair.... it could have been anywhere!

Oh well.... we decided on Jambalaya for tonight, so I will use a few of the thighs in that and make stock with the rest.

Alexa..your magazine stacks sound exactly like mine!!! I finally got together a whole bag of cooking mags and gave them away on Freecycle..not that I really wanted to but in an effort to simplify cleaning etc. I would really like to keep everything but my house looks like a messy library already!!!

No doubt about it. You're gonna find that recipe. JUST after you use up the last of those thighs! LOL, at least, that's the way it would happen in MY house!

It wasn't the one for stuffed chicken on the new recipe thread that called for breasts but they used thighs instead was it? Just a thought... it sounded good.
