Can I still seed? How much seed is too much?
Comments (1)Seeds sprout at different times, so it's possible that some are taking 3-5 days longer than others. I've had some take a month longer than others to sprout (albeit with grass that you're not likely to be planting). When do you expect your first frost? Fescue usually sprouts pretty quickly, so you can plant later than if you were planting KBG, but it's getting pretty late for a fall planting....See Moreok to pre-prep parts of salsa?
Comments (18)Thanks all! Last night I processed 4 quarts of hot packed whole yellow tomatoes (garden peach) and 2 quarts of "green" whole tomatoes (not actually green as in not-ripe, but variety called green zebra). They are beautiful (although one didn't seal)! Today I am doing batches of yellow tomato sauce (made from garden peach and yellow heirloom), orange tomato sauce (made from Pineapple tomatoes and sungold cherry toms), and red tomato sauce (from cosmonaut volkov, black krim, roma and rose de berne). Should be a lovely rainbow of jars. This is addictive... By the way, my name is actually Rachel. Screen name cindylouwho came from the grinch (long story...). Again, thanks for everyone's help. This site is a savior. Rachel P.S. How do you keep your kids from eating your labor-intensive canned peaches while peaches are in season? Mine have already gobbled down all but one quart. As much as I love that they love them, I cringe each time it takes them about 2 minutes to inhale a quart that took me hours to peel, cut, pack and process......See MoreCan I crush berries day before making jam?
Comments (10)As to the blueberries, I agree with last poster--I would make jam, or it would probaby end up more similar to a type of slow cooked butter with your pulp, only adding in extra juice if needed. Although, with blueberries, you could add a different juice for enhanced flavor. OJ would probably work, or a cranberry or pomegranate juice. I do my blueberry jam with a lemon verbena infusion. I also tend to do the prep on my fruit ahead of time, usually macerating with the sugars overnight. I generally start my jamming or canning at about 9pm, as I have two toddlers who are not particularly helpful at this point with canning and I wait until they're in bed. It helps immensely to have the fruit prepped, then I set out and measure all the other ingredients while they're getting ready, as well as getting the canner water boiling. Then, once they're asleep, I can knock off some jam pretty quickly and not stay up forever....See MoreHow much change can a person take in less than 10 days?
Comments (17)Thank you everyone. It helps so much to be able to write it all out here. I said before, you are all like my online diary. :) I know I have to let go of things with my dad and I'm really trying to. Hopefully he's up in heaven knowing my babies are on the way (wishful thinking at least). If I am pregnant this round, the baby/ies would be due right around his birthday so it's a little eerie when I think about it! I've had a very lazy week so far but mostly because my medications make me so tired (and hungry!). Your messages mean so much to me. Thank you. And you all will be one of the first to know if it's positive!...See Morecentralcacyclist
