I couldn't watch the video at the site and it said it's not for the faint of heart. Teddy (the puppy) is sleeping next to the laptop and she would be too disturbed seeing that stuff. As would I.

I watched part of the video, don't know what kind of animal it was but wtf? Why can't they kill the animal and skin it fast? The body would stay warm long enough to skin it. I couldn't watch it after they grabbed what looked like a white dog.

I don't think signing a petition is going to help, it's a culteral thing. These people don't see animals with feelings and think animals are so far beneath humans this is ok with them. How are you going to change that with a petition? Sad to say you can't.

I don't think there is anything that can be done to stop China from doing anything they want. Thank you very much, our politians, both Republican and Democrat. :(

I also heard about the abuse horses are getting since the do gooders closed the slaughter houses in Texas, and I guess, other places. Now they are being sent to Mexico and suffer horrible abuse in the way they are handled.

PETA can do as much harm as good. I fully believe some of the video they show has been setup by them. I know first hand of them releasing animals that should have never been allowed in the wild - only to die horrible deaths.

Marilyn is correct about the horse slaughter plants. Horses now are allow to starve to death or sent to Mexico to die a horrible cruel death, instead of a quick painless end. Is it better? NO

The China situation has been known about for years and years. That's precisely why most people who are opposed to furs are opposed to them. Because of the inhumane way the animals are killed. There is no regulation in China, no humane laws, nothing. They can do pretty much what they want, and get away with it.

PETA is not a credible organization in my book. They have been caught lying and misrepresenting things too many times. Don't believe everything you see on the internet unless you'll believe all movies, TV shows and radio programs are 100% accurate too.

They prey on peoples' emotions and anger and coincidently ask for donations!

I'd need some credible proof. Are there atrocities in the world? Yes. Are there atrocities in the US & Canada? Yes.

And I too wonder what the online petition is supposed to accomplish, short of providing a mailing list.

PETA is not the only organization to expose inhumane treatment of fur animals. HSUS and countless others not affiliated with PETA have also tried very hard to educate consumers. There are also several fashion designers who refuse to use fur because of the cruelty involved, including Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, Marc Bouwer, and Stella McCartney. It's a terrible, ugly business and the more people know about it and fight it, the better.

This isn't about mink coats and fox furs. This is about DOGS and CATS being skinned alive for their furs. Think what you might about PETA, they also do a lot of good for our "companion" animals. I live in Norfolk (their world headquarters) and they supply discounted spay/neuter programs and they supply outside dogs with free dog houses and they *do* a lot of good things for dogs and cats.

But back to this thing in China - this is a level of barbarity and cruelty that exceeds anything I've seen.

I was hoping to spread the word a bit and get a few more signatures on that online petition because ugly stuff like this usually happens in the dark and when you can shed a little light on it, oftimes good things can happen.

A lot of fur-trimmed items are made with dog and cat fur. Burlington coat factory got in trouble for selling such items a while back. But IMO, skinning Foxes and Minks and other animals alive is just as barbaric as doing this to cats and dogs. It's wrong, regardless of the animal species abused.

I cannot look at that stuff too much. A friend went to China and brought me some little trinkets--a cat and a panda. They are covered in some kind of fur. I cannot stand to look at them.

I didn't go the link, but it sounds like a program that aired on TV in the past year or two. Sad as it is, we can't govern other countries. We don't do a very good job of governing our own.

Different countries have different ideas- yes, it is disgusting to me- but.... it is no different than people in the US eating beef. Some of the Eastern countries worship the cattle- they would not even think of consuming cattle.
It is a warm/feeling being.
AND... it is alive and well here in the US- I used to work for the Federal Gov- in Public Health. On SOME of the reservations there was not a dog to be seen- and it wasn't because the dogs were being treated well..... not a single dog to be found. I was offered money for my Great Dane many times- needless to say she was never out of my sight.
