More Progressssss! Renovated Sunroom

So, I posted my renovated mudroom MONTHS ago and thought I'd have these "after" pics for you guys soon thereafter. Haaaaahahahaha. Yeah right. We could not get our act together to finish this room! We were undecided about so many things (initially, we were gonna move our monstrous sectional into this room, but it would've covered almost all of the stonework, and that stone is one of my favorite parts of the house. Anyway, our house is kind of odd in that it has three living rooms. So, the lack of seating in this room wasn't a huge deal, as we still have another room with the giant sectional and a third room with yet more seating. In our old house, I used a LOT of greys and browns and really wanted to try to go in a different direction with this house. Guess what I ended up with? Yep, greys and browns. Ah well, c'est la vie. I still need to add some finishing touches, but here are the before and afters so far (Btw, my pics stink - I apologize. I took them last night and not only is the lighting terrible, but some are blurry as well)...

Wow..if it hadn't been for the stone I wouldn't have known it was the same room !! Looks great. Love the new lighter color and the airy drapes. Great job > c

We live in a 1920s house and we have two. One is upstairs, connected to the master and only has two walls of windows and we were told was a "sleeping porch" originally. Eight years ago we added a room onto the back of the house, a room with sliding doors instead of windows on three of the walls. It looks like a porch that has been enclosed, but it is all new build. The room upstairs is our extra TV room -- two comfortable leather chairs and a TV and the wall that isn't windows is a wall of books. The downstairs room we use for a breakfast room (we have no eat in kitchen). It has one brick wall (the outside of the house) and a brick floor. It's where the big plants winter and where we eat most of our meals. What I would love is a conservatory with a roof of glass as well and I could probably put one on the south side of the house if I win the lottery -- LOL! Martha

Ugh still dealing with this and asking for help again. I was totally set on the bluestone sunroom floor until the quote came back at almost $5,000. The room is only 190 sf and a perfect rectangle. No cuts and little material waste. It's just way out of budget for what I was planning to spend on that floor. I was planning around $2,000. So I'm back to finding another solution and am stronglyg luxury vinyl planks in a whitewashed wood. I think it will give that back porch feel I was originally going for. The problem is I can't find one I like. They are all either too rustic, too grey, etc etc. I found a laminate that is a pretty good match for what I'm looking for but I don't think laminate will hold up. So I'm looking for a good quality LV in the same vein as the pic below . Am also open to other flooring suggestions or ideas in how to make my bluestone dreams a reality.

There's not much I can do now to add shade for the patio. I've considered various shades and umbrellas for the porch and patio but it just gets too windy at times, plus as the sun sets it gets too low even for a tilted umbrella. I don't doubt that a sunroom like the inspiration photo would be very expensive. My space won't be nearly as tall or wide and I will not have the nice windows shown. I'm guessing I'd have four or five good size vinyl windows matching my the current windows on the house and then a patio door, maybe a French door. For my addition I think the bulk of the expense will come from excavating/pouring the foundation, altering and adding on to the roof, electrical and hvac, and possibly whatever expense comes from relocating the electric meter and sprinkler system. I can DIY most of the interior finishing, but all the big jobs I will leave to the contractors.

Lovely! The color scheme shows off the stone so nicely!
I used to have that pottery barn lounge chair and ottoman...I loved them! But I couldn't find a place in our house for them, so reluctantly had to sell. The set looks great in your room!

Oh oh oh! It's fantastic! I love the rustic but sophisticated feel of the room -- the soft natural colors, the textures, the wicker, rattan, leather & oil-rubbed bronze combo, the painted ceiling beams. You made that paneling into something gorgeous. I didn't believe that room could be made beautiful, but you sure did it. What a fabulous transformation!

Thank you all! We are loving it. We actually put our Christmas tree in this room, but had to take it down right after Christmas because it was SO dry (forced hot air!).

Bestyears, the color is from Behr, Chocolate Froth.

I feel like I need to explain my "puddled" curtains in light of the other thread...

I personally really like puddled curtains, but for this room I wanted a more tailored look. I found these panels at Ikea for like, $20 a pair and, well, I like saving money! So, although they were the wrong size, I bought 'em with the intention of hemming them (yeah, we'll see if THAT ever happens) but I just couldn't wait to hang them and see how they looked.

Wow, it went from, "yeesh, that's not a flattering photo to use in the house ad" to " this is a picture from Houzz, isn't it?"

It looks GREAT! There is a lot of seating in there as well, what a great place to read and unwind. You did a great job, I could use some of that energy to work on some rooms in my house :)

Wow! Beautiful! Everyone should save these pictures as examples for the next poster that asks if they can/should paint their dated paneling.

The ceiling also looks fantastic. So much better painted!

Did you replace the windows, or did you just trim them all out? That's my favorite part of the room, although I like it all.

Is the piece w/ the 2 brown pillows an armless chair or the matching ottoman for the leather club chair? I was thinking the only thing I would need to live in that room 24/7 would be a great ottoman for that club chair. :) I am considering replacing my recliner (that I sit in A LOT) w/ a leather club chair and ottoma just like that.

strait - Wanna trade?! My husband wants to put a recliner in that spot in the worst way! That is the ottoman that goes with the chair...usually, it's in front of the chair, but when I took these pics I was using it as a place holder while trying to decide if I want a piece of furniture in that spot. When we had our Christmas tree in the room, it was where the cane chair is now and the cane chair was where the ottoman is. Once I de-Christmased the room, that spot felt really empty to me. Still not sure what I'm gonna do.

Btw, you are all much too kind. You give me the encouragement to continue on with this daunting whole-house renovation!

Oh. My. Word.

That is just fabulous! In full disclosure, I have to say that I'm a bit phobic of color and pattern, so the "before" pics just make my skin crawl. The combo of that unflattering carpet color with the knotty wood and that looming heavy ceiling and the skimpy valances just make me nervous. It looks like the yard outside is really lovely but you can't even see it because of all of the chaos on the inside.

What you've done is calmed the whole mess down, highlighted that very cool stone wainscot, and made it a very soothing spot to relax and enjoy the view. The room looks larger, too. You added back in just enough contrast and texture and color to keep it from being boring.

I just love the whole thing. That's a great wall color, too. I've been eyeing that same chip for some projects in our house. Great job!!

Maery, the curtains and rods are from Ikea! They rods were $4.99! And I get so many compliments on the curtains - they're actually pretty nice in person.

I missed the before discussions but have to say I love your room. My daughter is buying a country bungalow and it has paneling in it, similar to your before. Can I ask if you used special paint or prepped the paneling beforehand? Or did you just paint?

I'm so sorry I didn't see the last couple of questions! I don't receive emails when my threads are added to.

The trim color is another Behr color called Spice Delight.

We did use a shellac-based primer on the paneled walls before we painted - I think in total we did one coat of primer and two coats of paint. The walls look nice and smooth in person.

I would think you could use Wonder Under tape to "hem" the curtains...it comes in a tape version and you just press with an iron...unless they're shear...which they don't seem to be, but my eyes are getting tired. LOL
