I love the idea of a wrought iron wall design to mimic the lovely staircase. Can you get something made to mimic the shape? I imagine it would be difficult to find something commercially that will automatically just "fit"

For another idea, maybe a shelf at the bottom so you can place things on it?

It is a really pretty house! I think you could use any number of shapes there. I'd try a mock up with paper of a round piece, a vertical rectangle and maybe two squares, one above the other, and a round above a square of similar size. Tape them up in different configurations and sizes and see what you like. That way, you can concentrate on searching for pieces in shapes that you might not have thought would work.

After you find something, depending on what it is, I'd think about painting the back of the niche a darker color to set it off a bit more. You could also think of a small table or chest there to ground your artwork.

It would be difficult to find an arched piece that would match the arch. I think the best bet is an unframed piece of wall art such as a metal wall sculpture. A tree perhaps?

Perhaps consider asking at a custom mirror-and-glass shop about fitting a mirror OR even mirrored squares into the niche.

Then add a small half-round table or small half-found cabinet underneath it.

Your style seems to be traditional, and a lot like mine~I have the same iron ballustrades which seems to be popular in TX.

I have a series of this style of wall art on a wall in my great room. Mine are all arched, but I couldn't find one exactly like any I have, but thought this was a unique shape for a niche. I've used small topiaries in the 2 smaller ones, a birds nest in an urn in the medium one, and a larger topiary in the largest one~there are many options and can even be changed out for the seasons/holidays.

This is the only one I could find that comes close to what they look like. Could be painted to match light fixtures, etc.

I too thought of mirror right away. To mix the two ideas and get a mirror 'framed' in iron work would really tie in the stair case.

A tile mosaic or mural might look nice too. I might do a raised border around the edge. Something earthy to blend with the floor and wood/iron railing.

I really like a mirror by the entryway so that's what I would go with. I'm thinking an oval shape. I like the idea of doing mock-ups out of paper of different shapes to see what suits.
