Trim, Wainscoting? Color that goes well with..

the rest of the colors I have on my walls. The entry Bangkok rust. Living room a rich mid tone tan/brown with one accent wall Bangkok rust.

Dining room Laura Ashley Gold 3.

far room (can still be seen) Martha stewart Wild Artichoke - a sorta bright spring green.

DH has the handyman slated to paint and replace some trim around a large doorway.

So whatever color I choose for trim I will want to use throughout.

Here is the question. What color of White will look good on the trim with the colors I have on my walls. Most of the house is rather low light.

I have some wainscoting too. I am *thinking* A cream for the wainscoting and white for the trim.

Do you have any Color Suggestions for the Trim (white) and the Wainscoting (Cream)

Even if it's just "well a lot of people use this"

I searched for *whites* and trim and found a little but not much.

OH also is my plan for cream wainscoting and white trim Do-able against that Bangkok rust?

Just a thought, but might it not also be an option to use the same color for the trim and the wainscoting for a more unified look? With all the warm colors you have for your paints my choice would be a light cream or a very warm white.

Such a nice space! All that wood is going to boss around your decorating. You are smart to try to work with it instead of fight it with cool colors. I think orange is definitely out as an accent color. It is just going to enhance the orange tones of the wood. I would consider painting all the doors in the dining space, it will make the space look less chopped up. I saw on another thread that you are replacing the kitchen floor. Have you considered a slate look tile with faint brown accents? Your floor will have a nice clean look and the accents will work with the wood and will look good with your taupe cabinets. I was about to suggest the same. These are pine. They are not worth "saving" as a wood-look product. In fact the original attempt at stain is a bad one. Pine doesn't like taking stain. It really really doesn't. As Hallett & Co. suggests, invest in some HIGH QUALITY primer (Zinsser or better) and some decent sanding materials. Make sure you purchase primer that is SPECIFICALLY designed to go over oil based finishes/polyurethane. Paint the trim whatever colour you desire (I suggest white...it is much easier to coordinate than any other colour). Just by doing this ONE thing, you will have updated your home by 40 years. I kid you not.

I would paint walls Alabaster since your trim is all Alabaster. Your trim should be all semi-gloss alabaster, walls eggshell or matte. Even though they are the same color it will look different. That would be my first choice. Second choice I would go with BM Edgecomb Gray.

And believe me… I’m an over thinker. I looked at a gazillion whites and read a bunch of articles about undertones, which way the condo is facing, etc. So glad I just went with it.

I agree that the trim and wainscotting should be the same color and I would vote for the cream. I am putting up BM White Marigold as trim in the LR, BM Pine Grove and kitchen F&B Sudbury Yellow with a rusty red hutch. There is a green undertone in the White Marigold, which I think would look better with your colors than a tan undertone cream.

But I am no color expert, so take it FWIW. I hope to have trim pics on Monday.

Here is SW's dover white.
I also agree the wainscot should be the same as trim.

Our painter suggested painting the inside of the wainscoting panels a little darker than the pure white trim. It makes the details of the moldings more obvious. Here is our foyer with "Cayenne Pepper" walls. I do think the all one color looks great too.

I recommend BM Cloud White. It has the ability to "pick up" any color around it. It still looks white but a matching white to whatever your wall color is. It's a great trim color. Your wainscoting can be the same color as your trim or as judiegal has posted in her pictures a little darker. It depends which one you like best. I personally like the same color for both.
