Sorry for not posting back until now; all our things are finally moved into our new home. Now to clean the old one so we can get renters! Thank you all for your opinions and advice! I did go ahead and order the Kenmore range. I considered a GE range, but in the end, I would have had to pay almost 2xs as much for a similarly featured range. I did research through consumer reports, and for 2013, GE and Frigidaire tied for first, for brand reliability in the gas range category. Kenmore was just one point behind. I also have a Kenmore range in my old home (don't know if it was made by Frigidaire at that time), and it is at least 12 years old. It doesn't look pretty, but everything is still functioning well. Anyway, for the price I couldn't justify the GE purchase. There are both good and bad reviews for both brands. It seems you either luck out with a good appliance, or a problematic one, in either case! Thanks again!

So this isn't the greatest picture (and please note this is an UNFINISHED kitchen and sorry I just realized my butt is in the picture because my DH took it while I was cleaning the glass on the range...) but you might be able to make out the 18" pantries flanking the 48" SZ. The doors open left and right 90 degrees, just like a SxS, which works perfectly as our drop zone is on the island across the aisle (galley style kitchen layout is on page 7 in the gallery kitchen forum). All are 27" pullouts (set in 30" deep cabinets) and completely adjustable to whatever heights I want. Note: The top of the pantry is at 60" - I didn't think pullouts any higher than that would be of much use. I keep extra appliances (slow cooker, rice cooker, colandar, roasting racks, etc) in the upper cabinets above the pantry. This is not quite enough space for us so I use the cabinet under the prep sink for big stuff like gallons of vinegar and 20# sacks of basmati rice and the weird flours that we don't use much (for making tortillas). I also have a big hall closet that I use for cases of big cans (I shop primarily at Costco). Hope this helps your thinking/planning a bit.

I have the exact configuration of a full depth refrigerator (ours is SxS, but the door situation is the same idea) next to a pantry. I was worried. I checked. I measured. I worried. It turned out perfect. The pantry door opens beyond 90 degrees. Actually it opens to its full stop which may be 110 degrees. Here's why. The door is about 19 inches wide, which sticks out WAY past the closed refrigerator door. So the cabinet pull can only hit air and since the door approaches the refrigerator at an angle, it goes past the refrigerator door before it extends as far to the side as the refrigerator. I don't know if that makes much sense. I'll post a picture if you haven't already decided against it. I do have a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch refrigerator side panel instead of 3/4 inch so that helps too. I'm not sure if I can hit the refrigerator with the cabinet door if I try intentionally. I think I can, but my point here was that the cabinet door would open past 90 degrees which is necessary for a pull out. Having the refrigerator stick out past the cabinets (standard depth ref.) has another side benefit. It's harder to hit the cabinets with the refrigerator door too. In my case my refrigerator has a stop BEFORE the cabinets. I can force it further, but it stops automatically before the cabinets. If it were counter depth it would probably be too close to the cabinets when open and might hit them. - Jim

I also had concerns about this kind of setup and then noticed many, many pics of kitchens with the ovens next to the refrigerator, so decided to go with that same layout since nothing else worked as well in my space. It's been 3 weeks now since I "moved into" my new kitchen and I haven't noticed any issues. I love the location of the appliances and wouldn't change a thing. I did go with a panelled built-in refrigerator, although I have seen plenty of pictures of stainless refrigerators next to stainless ovens, and they look fine.
