Where is Ricky Gervais when you need a host for an awards show? These 2 were worse than pathetic.

But wasn't Kirk Douglas amazing - his timing was impeccable.

Bring back Billy Crystal! I agree, Hathaway and Franco were pathetic.

I was glad for the major categories. Although I wasn't wild about the movie, Natalie Portman did a brilliant job in Black Swan and really was heads above the other nominees for Best Actress. And King's Speech definitely deserved Best Picture, along with Best Actor for Colin Firth, who I felt was also heads above his fellow nominees.

I guess I just didn't get the whole Social Network craze. A movie about a very smart but very arrogant young man getting sued by all the people he may or may not have stepped on. I didn't find it entertaining. When I look at the Best Pic nominees, I try to think of which ones will still be interesting and entertaining 10 or 20 years from now. Social Network doesn't fit that bill but King's Speech sure does.

I wanted Amy Adams to win Best Supporting Actress, but Melissa Leo really jazzed things up in HER acceptance speech. And she really was good in The Fighter. And I think Christian Bale was a sure bet for his Oscar.

All in all, it was an OK show, nothing too spectacular but not too boring either.

Boring boring boring acceptance speeches. I enjoyed hearing the full songs for best song nomination. And the little "tribute" to Bob Hope. Fell asleep 5 minutes before it ended. I woke up and my local news was on. I missed "Best picture." thanks for filling me in.

I think the Oscars should be a celebration of the industry, and so I felt that Ann and James did a great job. I saw Social Network and The King's Speech, and I did enjoy them both, and was rooting for King. But mostly I watch the Oscars for a chance to view the gowns and comment about disasterous choices. There were some gorgeous gowns this year.

I didn't watch the show, but was so disappointed when I heard that True Grit was shut out. I thought Jeff Bridges and the young woman co-star (don't recall her name) did a fantastic and convincing job in their roles. But, I've always loved westerns so I could be somewhat biased, LOL.
By the way, another very good edge-of-your-seat movie I've seen recently was Unknown with Liam Neeson. It wasn't nominated for anything that I know of, but just thought I'd throw in a plug for it.

Anne was herself. She was very sweet. She may have been in over her head but she gave it her best shot, she was real and I think she deserves some recognition for it. Who cares about who won what! What was your favorite/least favorite dress!!!

I thought Anne was great. And what a beautiful singing voice she has--I had no idea. As a host, James was maybe a little flat......I guess I expected more humor from him, more animation. But I'm not complaining; I enjoyed the show.

I loved all the dresses Anne wore. As for least favorite dress, I have three. Cate Blanchett's looks prettier in this link than it did on the screen last night, at least to my eyes, but I still think the top is totally unflattering. A reviewer described it as "a decorative napkin with a stain around the neck."

I've only seen True Grit and I thought it was outstanding. Jeff Bridges performance was even more Oscar worthy than the one he won with last year. The girl, Hailee Steinfeld (?) was brilliant! I think she should have been nominated in the leading actress category. She looked so beautiful last night and for sure wouldn't have dropped the F-bomb on national television.

I thought overall the show was really boring. Billy Crystal walked out and I said, oh thank God. The tempo of the show was terrible. I wonder if there was a new director. Ann Hathaway would have done much better with a more upbeat co host. James Franco looks really hard to work with. I thought the crowd was a little bland too.

Melissa's dress loved pretty in head shot closeups. I think there were tons of pretty dresses this year. Hillary Swank's was absolutely gorgeous. Reese Witherspoon looked lovely. I liked Ann Hathaway's dresses. Jennifer Hutton (do I have the name right?) was beautiful in the Chinese red dress. I don't know the names of lots of the stars, but the designers and shoppers/dressers did a great job this year.

I liked Gwyneth Paltrow's dress the best. I love Anne Hathaway, but did think James was a little stiff. I wish Billy Crystal would host again. I think a comedian does it best but I give Hathaway an A for effort. She's very pretty. Although I thought Annette Benning was great in her movie which I loved, Natalie Portman was beyond great. I loved almost every movie I saw this year except Eat Pray Love and The American. Hated them both. I loved The Town and it only had one nomination.

I don't think True Grit got shut out so much as it just wasn't quite as good as its competitors. It WAS very good and I agree that both Jeff Bridges and Hailey Steinfeld were really good. But the competition was just too tough.

And I think Haily Steinfeld is a beautiful, poised young lady. I hope to see a lot more of here in the future.

Cate Blanchett's dress definitely falls into the "what was she thinking?" category. From the waist down, though, it was flowing and beautiful. Too bad.

I think Reese Witherspoon is always poised, gracious and beautiful. And I love her dress too.

You know, Anne might have been better off doing the whole thing by herself. James just seemed so disinterested. He tripped over his words and just sort of recited them. But in the end, I think it needs to be a commedian who hosts. If it needs to be a younger person, so be it, but make it someone who knows how to stand up in front of cameras and an audience and tell jokes.

It was Jennifer Hudson, Sheila, and I agree. It was great to see her looking fabulous with her new figure.

It was the mirrors all over Melissa Leo's dress that I didn't like.

I loved Gwyneth's dress, too, and was surprised to see it on a "worst dresses" list. It's all so subjective! :-)
