Here is the fabulous gift that came in the mail yesterday from mustangs. She knows I love her fig prosciutto salad that is dressed with fig balsamic, so guess what came in the mail...yep, Bistro Blends fig balsamic vinegar.

She also saw my collection of rolling pins when she visited here in May. So guess what else I got?

Peppi also brought wonderful gifts on her visit. A copper veggie grilling pan for the grill, 4 steak thermometers cause she knows that Roger always overcooks the meat, and a grill brush (She must have seen how skanky the old one had become).

I love my Cooking Forum friends all the time, (even when empty-handed,LOL) but I have to tell you, they could not have pleased me more with the gifts they brought me and sent me.

Okay girls, I am ready to get together again. Where and when?

I agree - food is the way to go with a 20 something guy. We are big on barbeque. Chili is good too if he likes the hot stuff. I don't know who you can order from in Dallas but The County Line in Austin has great BBQ and I know they ship out. I know when I moved to San Diego California and went to any so called "Mexican" restaurant and tried to order chips and queso they didn't have a clue what queso was. Send him a can of Rotel Tomatoes and Green Chilies, velveeta cheese, and tortilla chips and he can make it himself! Mmmm...I'm getting hungry.

Well, we covered the kitchen knife aspect last year, when I told him about Aldi's bargain forged Santuko knives and went right out to fetch him one. (He's thanked me many times for my effort on his behalf.) I also steered him towards their enameled cast iron pieces, so I know he's covered that way. My favorite cookbook covers meat dishes, and since I don't know if he's vegetarian, vegan or what this week, that doesn't seem to fit very well. I did give my favorite cookbooks to two nieces a few years ago (the one getting married, and another to her sister the maid of honor who was feeling like a slave at that point) which didn't make any kind of impression on either of them. I'm not ready to go there again. I'm leaning towards something more fun than kitchen tools. For example, one couple we were friends with received a trapeze they could hang somewhere as they always seemed to be taking people on tours of their beautiful old home. At least it was something to talk about! (I guess this would have been the second marriage, middle aged couple.) No, it's not appropriate for this couple, but I'd love to give them another ''story'' to add to their own. We've known our friend over 30 years, and would like something a little different I guess than the standard wedding gift you might give to someone just starting out you don't know very well.

Amex has always charged more than the other cc companies. Others have already pointed out that those mall cc purchases really hit small businesses hard. We have customers that are kind enough to be aware of that and write checks or use their debit card, or even, believe it or not, pay in cash. A lot of you have mentioned Costco. I've never shopped at one because they're just not convenient to me, but I used to shop at Sam's. I quit doing that years ago because they had an annual fee, and I didn't feel like I was saving enough to make up for that annual fee. Most of what I got at Sams I could buy as a loss leader at a regular grocery store. I've also not found coupons to be very useful, because they're rarely for real food, just processed food. After seeing several stories on the news, and listening to co-workers, I broke down and bought a Sunday paper several weeks ago for the coupons. Boy, was I disappointed. I spent $2.00 on the paper, and maybe found that much worth in coupons that I might use, (which I have to admit I've forgotten about), and then I had all this mess of paper to deal with. a really good-quality umbrella (men seem to like those huge golf ones that make some sort of territory-grabbing statement, which is really annoying in NYC). tickets to some event you think he'd like (though if you get him a pair, he may feel he HAS to take you--depends on the dynamics of the relationship) a new wallet--if you can see what style he's using already. My DH gets these from time to time, and they are useful, bcs his wear out eventually. Does he use a day planner or a PDA? Could you "up the ante" by getting him a new binder, or a new case for it? Perhaps a higher-quality one than he's got? And who cares whether he can get a better deal on it than you can--the point is not how much it cost, but that you thought of it in connection w/ him. And there are always books, if you know what he likes to read. Or DVDs. And, don't pressure yourself too much. Once people get to be grownups, the importance of presents falls a little--just one small, nice thing is great. Oh--oh--TOYS! the phrase "once people get to be grownups" made me think of this. Grownups don't get toys--not TRUE toys. We get "toys," w/ quotation marks. We get iPods instead of GameBoys, DVDs instead of action figures. Get him a toy, even if it's a smallish one. Lego makes these really great little things called XPods, I think, that are $10 or so, and you can make little bitty cars, or robots, or whatever is in the Pod. (here's a pretty good selection--they change the colors periodically, though) and for $20, they have kits for making dinosaurs, etc. And for $7, there are "mini Designer" sets The XPods are neat, bcs they result in a little result, which means they go together fast, and he can stick it on his computer monitor at work, or something, without looking like an immature geek. (not that a guy who puts together Lego dinosaurs is an immature geek, mind you...) I gave the Xpod to every one of the guys in my family at Christmas this year--they didn't go ballistic, but they were amused and they thought it was fun.

Holey Moley, it's like Christmas in July. What thoughtful generous gifts. I love the rolling pin. I've never seen anything like it.Your house looks very pretty, too.

To me she is the Gadget Lady of Tampa.

From the little time I spent with her, shopping, I took note, that she became Mesmerized.

While she was actually in a Kitchen Accessory Supply Store,
I had the impression that she imagined herself in a Museum.

All I can say is WOW! I love that pin, it's gorgeous, as is that grill pan!

Umm....so is there a recipe for that salad? It sounds delish!

Sherry, What wonderful gifts from Peppi and Cathy. Don't you just love, that you can look into your kitchen, and immediatly think of one of your cooking friends. I know I feel that way every day. Especially when I use the LeCreuset saucer pot that you gave me. It stays on my stove most of the time, ready for use;-)

I agree with Lou, that's an absolutely beautiful rolling pin. As you know, I just love wood and that's outstanding.

Of course I knew Cathy and Peppi would know exactly what to bring.

Sherry, That's very nice of you to share with the CF your surcies--and well presented. I really have tried a number of fig balsamics and find this to be the most flavorful.

I might add that Sherry, Roger, and Dexter are wonderful hosts. I so enjoyed being with them. Going from Peppi's beautiful home and hospitality to Sherry's is such a smooth transition.

I had the impression that she imagined herself in a Museum. Now that's funny Lou!

What great gifts for a great hostess and host! I can attest that the fig vinegar is the best, because Cathy gave me some too! What do you use it on?
The rolling pin is a beauty and of course the grilling gifts from Peppi are always welcome! Roger is awesome on that grill!
I've missed seeing y'all too!
