Reasonable price on countertop for wet bar = hard to find!!
Comments (11)Thanks for the messages... I have had some quotes for under $2000 now, one for $1500 one for $1900. iinsic thanks for the great suggestion about granite tiles. That is really an outstanding idea. So what do I need to build that will support granite tiles? Basically I will have two heights on the bar, one standard cabinet height with just cabinets installed with no countertop (so you can see right into the cabinet), then I have a 2x6 wall constructed that is 40.5" tall for the bar height that people sit at... do I need to build some kind of support structure for the tiles? I'll be thrilled if I can knock out a granite tile bartop for $500 ish....See MoreMarble Countertop Price Negotiations
Comments (21)Sparklingwater, we used Fernando's marble shop in Rockville md. They came recommended From our builder. They are family owned and the owner learned his trade in Portugal. They had beautiful slabs. We are getting our counter tops installed this week. It was about $2,800 for 28 sq feet, plus two 5 feet caps and about 5 feet of 8 inch high backsplash, eased edge. We chose a 3 cm white venato marble. They hone all their countertops as part of the process. They had beautiful Carrara also, 3 cm. good luck!! Edit: the Carrara was priced about the same as the marble we chose, maybe a bit less. We told them our budget and they showed us the Venato and the Carrara. Comments (6)I am so sorry that this has happened to you. I recently had an issue with our floor and when I contacted the mfr, they kept saying the installer was at fault and the supplier. In the end, the supplier is refunding material costs and the mfr is covering the labor. I'd try for a new slab from the vendor and new fabrication from the fabricator. Since both probably want to work with each other in the future, they should play nice and split the compensation that way. The vendor blames the fabricator and the fabricator will probably blame the vendor. In my case, I told the mfr to work it out amongst themselves and let me know when they had worked out a deal, which they ended up doing. I'd ask them to meet with you at the same time and come up with a plan. Both may be less inclined to blame the other to their face. You may be stuck with the tile issue as neither one will will to pay out of pocket for that. That may need to be your contribution to the fix. Good luck and stick to your guns! Both will try to get out of it, so you need to be firm and make it clear that you are the only one who is ,not at fault. If your floors and walls did not settle then how did the counter? Older houses usually have settled most of the way in the early years (unless you have a serious structural problem) and settle much less after the initial phase. If you had a gc on your kitchen, I'd ask for their opinion as to settling and/or why it is cracked. An unbiased outsider may have more insight....See MoreIs this a ridiculous price for marble countertops?
Comments (5)That whole thing sounds very high to me. We are also outside Philly. We went to Imperial Marble and Granite, they had the best selection of marble that we found anywhere in the area and believe me, we went everywhere (there's a slab place right next to the IMG store) and gave us a great price. We paid $85/sq ft staturietto 3cm marble (34 square feet, plus we paid an extra $25/sq ft on top of that price for a cove ogee edge) Calcacutta cielo marble from the same place, we paid $74 square foot installed (18 sq. feet) Marina argento marble we paid $90 square foot installed (14 square feet) All prices included material and install. Pics on my blog- the staturietto was for the kitchen; calacutta cielo in master bedroom and upstairs laundry and marina argento on the bedroom fireplace) Imperial Marble and Granite WAS willing to work with a slab of stone that we had purchased from a different fabricator (most places were not because it was a slab of blue bahia which is very expensive). It is hard to decipher from my old notes but it looks like they were going to charge me $30/sq foot to fabricate the blue bahia for an island top plus the cost of picking that top up from the other fabricator. I would email Nicole at IMG and ask her for a price quote. She was very nice and helpful, if you want her email just drop me a line through GW and I'll send it to you.
