Rule of thumb that I often see is: width of chandelier should be equal in inches to the length plus width of room (in feet). Height of chandelier should be 3 inches for every foot of room's height. In your case that would give you a 14 inch wide and 57 inches tall. I doubt you'll find much with dimensions close to that. LOL! I'd probably go quite a bit wider than 14 inches especially since the foyer is open to the great room. Maybe up to 22 inches wide. But you need something to fill up some of that well-like space and give it some definition so definitely look for something that is taller than it is wide. I'd want at least 42 to 44 inches tall and I'd want to be able to hang it so that it is either centered in the foyer window or so that the bottom edge of the chandy is at the same level as the bottom edge of the foyer window. It isn't a perfect search because height is sometimes measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the fixture and therefore includes the length of any fixed rod - or even sometimes the length of the chain! - rather than just giving you the dimensions of the "decorative part" of the fixture which is really what you want to focus on. But at least you can eliminate fixtures that are much too wide for your space and narrow down the search for some with a body height which is great enough for your space.

Your foyer sounds exactly like mine, actually, yours might be a touch larger. I currently have a huge fixture in that space. I believe the original owners chose it to fill the large window, and fill it does! We call it the big brass spider. I'm struggling with getting rid of it because its a gorgeus real brass fixture (and priced at $3k new on Progress Lighting website), but I feel its far too large. It has 3 tiers, 21 lights total and trips the breaker if I have it on and try to vacuum the hall. Now, my fixture is 48 inches wide, and it is far too large. That's a great question! I think I would consider only the foyer when choosing a chandelier to light that area, despite it being open to the living room. To get a good idea of what size chandelier to use in the area, measure the length and width of the foyer in feet. Then, add those two numbers together. That result is a good ideal width/diameter for a chandelier (in inches). This info comes from our light sizing guide.

The piano needs to sit under that chandelier with its lid opening so the sound is thrown out into the room and not into a wall. Or you need a larger round foyer table to sit under the chandy. Make the sitting room comfortable for enjoying a concert. I see art, large statues or sculptures in the niches up top. Pick up the colors from the fireplace art in a sexy aqua or turquoise sofa on the wall with sconces and a mirror, brass and glass coffee table and accessories. Maybe ivory chairs flanking the FP and a bench or chaise at the window. The room needs a large rug and the piano needs one too. Drapes on the windows will enhance the acoustics too. Here the open lid throws sound up the stairs; I would reverse it so the sound travels into the sitting room.
