Really upset with Microplane :(

Just wanted to alert good folks here. I know many of you like your Microplane and I was one of you until a week ago.
I loved the 4 sided box shredder and used it daily. It is exactly 6 months old, today. Little over a week ago, to my horror, a little piece of plastic fell off, almost ended up in the salad. I wrote an e-mail to Microplane, asking about the warranty and how would they like to handle the defective shredder. A week has gone by and I have yet to receive a reply.
One of the reasons I bought the Microplane shredder, that was much more expensive than other options, because it was made in USA and I expected quality and decent customer service. Unfortunately I have gotten none.
What should I do next? I will send them one more e-mail with the link to this post. I was also thinking, should I alert the consumer protection agency, as this defect could be potential chocking hazard?
