I bought the Pediegg...not impressed...kinda the same concept I think.

My manicure/pedicure place uses something that looks like a traditional microplane. This one looks a bit less frightening to use on your feet.

My heels always get so dry in the summer because I wear sandals all summer long. A few weeks ago they looked so bad I actually used my palm sander on them. Sorry if that's tmi, but it worked like a charm except the vibrations tickled like crazy. I am extremely ticklish and usually have to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing and pulling my foot away during a pedicure.

I try to keep up with my foot maintenance by using a spongy emery block.

I just use the microplane meant for nutmeg.....but I seem to have lost it. Works as well and came with 3 other microplanes for about $20 on an Amazon Friday special.

I use the zester for my feet, and I have one I keep in the bathroom for that purpose. I have two other microplanes that I keep in the kitchen. I started using a microplane on my feet way before they made ones specially for feet, and I have a feeling that the ones made for feet are not as good. I also bought some Krack at an Indian market but generally forget to use it.

I use the cordless dremel on my tootsies. It makes short work of callouses, dry skin, etc. I also have a coarser grinding wheel for the dogs toenails, we don't share that closely! LOL!

I think I'd stick with the Microplane brand for this one, too. Someone I know bought a Microplane-clone, then complained that it didn't work as well as my true Microplanes. I figure the company makes rasps for surgeons to use on bones and woodworkers to use on fine wood, so they probably know a thing or three about rasps that warrant the extra dollars. :) Clones look for ways to cut costs so they can undersell, and what I save on the appliance would probably end up more than spent at the ER later!

I read somewhere that those razor things (like microplanes) that nail salons use are actually illegal in many states. Those nipper things for cuticles, too. Apparently the cutting opens up the tissue to infections from the foot soak if they are not disinfected properly.

I won't let them use those microplane/razor things on my feet when I get a pedicure because though it may feel smooth at first, in no time it makes for a really tough callous. Pumice works just fine and no calloused heels!

Lars, what is Krack?

I love my Ped Egg. It has a microplane surface and a buffer. All the drug stores sell them now. It would have never occurred to me to buy one, but it was recommended by a friend. Like mer said, you must follow the instructions and not overdo. My heels are so nice and smooth now.

I agree with Linda that pumice works beautifully and leaves the skin smooth without danger of overdoing it.

That's what I have always used.

Microplanes? Zesters? Drumels? STOP IT!! You're driving me crazy!!!!

I just got back from the nail salon and of course thought of you all while I was there. This time they just soaked my feet until they were nearly puckery, then exfoliated the feet and legs with scratchy lotion. After that she worked on my heels with a paddle shaped thingy that had a rough surface. She also beat the bejabbers out of my calves and then wrapped steamy towels around my legs which felt wonderful (the towels not the beating).

I remember those razors, in fact I have one somewhere. They aren't allowed to use them in salons around here anymore.

I used my nutmeg grater on my heels this morning...LOL

I thought about grabbing my microplane (namebrand) but then the nutmeg grater is shorter and easier to handle. LOL

I said STOP IT!!! I can't keep myself from checking to see if you're all still doing this! Have mercy! I'd rather have heels as thick as shoe leather than - ugh - I can't say it.

Jim you are too funny. Please try to keep that ear hair and crazy brows under control. My salon will wax your brows if you like -- and anything else you've got.

Sherrmann -- no one said beauty comes easily. My tootsies are sooo soft at the moment , not to mention that they are also bright pink.

Going to the salon sure beats the electric sander.

Jim, here's {{gwi:1449020}}, and I have to argue that I still do care about my feet, among other things. The rocks that I was climbing on there removed a lot of dead skin, and when I went back, I wore surf booties.

I bought a Pediegg at Rite Aid the other night and really am impressed. What a hoot...in the "As Seen On TV Section" at Rite Aid. I have dry, cracked skin on my feet, quite a problem for me that is hard to maintain even with professional pedicures every two weeks and goodness knows how much oil & lotion I use in addition to prescription urea cream. The Pediegg easily turns all of the hard thick skin on your feet to powdery dust all captured in the little egg thing. Fantastic $10 gizmo. Regular pumice stones & files don't help the calloused skin on my feet.

Heh...DH has feet like a baby's. Guess it comes from a lifetime of wearing wool socks and never going barefoot. I'm just the opposite, my shoes come off as soon as I get home and don't go on again until I have to go out in public. I could probably walk across coals at this point.

I can't help myself, so I'm back again.

I have extremely tender feet. For 30 years I had dry, cracked heels. I never ever go barefoot except in the shower, but hub and kids never wear shoes! They all have soft feet, no corns or callouses of any sort! I'm so jealous!

Over the years I'd pumiced, creamed, used every treatment (EXCEPT MICROPLANES AND DRUMELS - SHEESH!) you can imagine and guess what - Here come's the little secret - it was a fungus. One week of tinactin last summer, and I, too, have soft feet!

I am utterly amazed, but for me, it worked. Between genetics and fungicides, I guess everybody's feet are different. My entire family walks on hot blacktop and gravel barefoot, but I wear my slippers on carpet in the middle of the night.

I'm with Shermann. After seeing two dermatologists, my secret is Carmol 40, a urea based cream. Smooth feet w/in a week!

Well I went out and got a ped egg thingy today when I was at Walgreens. I need to test it out, my caluses have caluses and my heals are so dry. DH's feet get cracks in them if he wears his sandals too much which has done for the last week.

Stacie- DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO Your DH'S FEET Without talking to a doctor! Diabetics have feet that need special care! Seriously, please don't.

Diabetics need to be super careful about any abrasions, niks or skin openings on their feet (and, to a lesser degree, hands). It has to do with the compromised neurology and vascular systems in extremities and the susceptibility to infections. I won't go into the deatils of how I know, it would be way much TMI -- just trust us on this one. There are podiatrists who specialize in diabetic care because it's such a susceptible area.

If there are no open cracks, try a little Bag Balm on them each night. (Ask his MD first.)
