This is a 90% done picture. Mine is caddy corner and was the only logical spot for the sink due to space and layout. I have 3 seats at the peninsula which are used for just about every meal. my kitchen has been in use for almost a year and so far I have no complaints about the sinks location. In fact I find it rather convenient as I just push the dirty dishes right up to the sink after dinner. The cabinet to the right of the sink is a pull out trash/recycle bin which works out well. The only negative I have is the last wall cabinet above the sink, Im only 5'1 and I have a very hard time reaching to access the right side of the cab but that would hold true whether or not the sink was there. I should have put either a single door/smaller cabinet or an open decorative shelf, this may not be a factor for you and your new kitchen but it's something to think about. To answer some questions, I'm afraid the item posted by remodelfla is very cool, but way to big for the situation, plus I don't see how having the counter move in and out is that big of a help because you still have to stash the chairs somewhere. For morgne's question, the only thing I am changing is the 3 ft wall where we removed the pipe, the rest of the cabinets are staying put.(though I know they are not perfect, but I'm not doing a complete kitchen makeover.)

I was not specific enough sorry. We are refinishing our old floor and we have added a lot of new flooring (due to cat urine from prev owners) We were going to stain the floors before putting on the final protective coating which in our case we have chosen "street shoes" a water based very durable coating, from what we have heard. We were going to use English Chesnut as the stain but feel it is too dark for the second floor. I have been able to see many pictures of "Natural" stain on the internet. But we are considering no stain just the clear floor with coating of the finish to protect the floors. In our last home I believe the red oak was sanded and then poly oil based was applied. I did not like how orange it became over time. That is why I am not wanting to use poly this time. So I am looking for any pics of floors that were sanded and then not stained, not even with "Natural" and then were sealed with something other than the yellowing poly. I hope this explains it a little better. Thanks for your help!! Amy

Thanks jkmom51 and morton5--I know I'd read a thread a few months back about seating/couches in the kitchen (after we'd planned our flip-flop and were either awaiting our couch's delivery or had it, but no cocktail table)--figured a picture would be helpful to those contemplating the same sort of thing. With our Christmas tree and menorah lit up this past week (equal-holiday observance household here! :-)), it's been really nice just sitting there in the evening, basking in the glow of our holiday lighting. pbrisjar--the painting is actual a felt(ed wool) wall hanging. It was a birthday gift from my very dear DH this past spring. While we've only had it for less than a year, it's actually one of the artist's older pieces (her works are very different now, so we feel doubly lucky to have found and been able to get this one--I'd fallen in love with her stuff years ago). BTW, the jewel-toned pillows are actually knitted pieces (by my mom!) that I sewed onto pillows I purchased in Crate and Barrel. todds--Yes, we both remember you! Did you end up purchasing any Wolf and/or SZ appliances? If I recall, you were having your cabinets custom made? I might need to get a name/number from you.... Good memory re: our house; we are in a bi-level. Our kitchen measures roughly 13' X 13'. The aisle between the window wall and the island measures 42" counter to counter, and the aisle between the pantry wall and the island measures 36" counter to counter (island top to msg center top). We deliberately biased the spacing the way we did, in order to allow plenty of room to walk between the opened DW door and the island. trailrunner--no fresher than you are...LOL
