Help! My light granite is turning dark!
Comments (163)Thank you, everyone, for this post. I read all of it. My kitchen is still in the state of being renovated but mostly finished. I did my homework on granite before I okay'ed it (Joseph..I about fell out of my seat when I read your message about the "man of the house". That has been my issue with my guy giving the ok 😂). Anywho...I'm having both problems here. Parts of my counter are darker where items have been sitting and vice-versa. I didn't take the granite guys word on anything except to seal it monthly (they were the subcontractors for the local kitchen remodel company). The company my guy hired SUCKS!! I've had to fix many F-ups of theirs and F-ups on the granite, too. I went ahead and bought a kit (StonePro) to resurface my granite. This is the second time I'm doing it when I ran across the dark spot. I am thinking it was the original sealant as it is kinda far back and I'm kinda short so I may have not gotten it properly the first time. My random orbital kinda gets "stuck" where the dark place is. I'm going to go over it again and if that doesn't work...I have 20 and 30 vol. developers I'll give a whirl. 🤞...See Moregrey walls turned blue
Comments (19)Here are your givens: 8' ceiling; warm cherry color cabinets: coordinating warm granite countertops. White plantation shutters. Pinkish looking fireplace surround. Yet you not only went with cool gray but two shades of it, chose two gray sofas, in a room with low ceilings, which gives a cave-like effect. Repaint the walls a clean, light warm white that harmonizes with cabinets, countertops, floors. Don't replace countertops now or later, but work with them. No accent walls to break up the white. No stick-on tiles, but the white and gray might be nice since you're going to have two gray sofas. To sum up: embrace your cabinets, floors, and countertops. Change wall paint--a lot easier than new countertops. Change fireplace surround. If you do white, then the gray sofa can be your gray. For contrast, introduce colors via art, pillows, rug that incorporate the wood color, off white, gray....See MoreHelp please! Advise and how to paint wood floor dark grey!

Comments (25)Tile is the place to save and make it as neutral as possible so over time you can refresh the room by swapping out the vanity, light fixtures, and paint color to bring it up to date. A light grey or white is the perfect solution for this and a universal color. Next consider ease of cleaning and staining. Black can show a lot of soap scum. I presume the same is true of a deep dark grey. Never believe the sales person who says the grout lines are enough to make the floor non-slip. It is just not true. Purchase products meant for your surfaces. In a small bathroom I like a non-slip floor carried from the bathroom floor into the shower floor. It makes the space feel bigger. I am not depressed by grey in the morning. In fact, a red bathroom would make me want to jump back under the covers and hide from the day! This is a classic, timeless, high end look. You can easily swap out the vanity, lights, and paint color to completely change the look to be more contemporary. Again, this tile can remain the same and the room can be classic or modern depending on the light, mirror, and plumbing fixtures. I'm not a fan of the light, mirrors, or faucet, but I could easily transform this room to a completely different look without changing the tile....See MoreLinda Ross
