Plants contain ALA omega 3s (not all, but things like flax/soybean/canola)... Fish (some more then others) contain DHA/EPA... The "good" stuff is the DHA/EPA (they are different but the body can convert them back and forth). The body can also convert ALA to DHA/EPA but the conversion process is inefficient (doesn't yield much by my research). It also seems that grass fed meat contains DHA/EPA, but i haven't researched it enough to know how much. Also be aware that fish do not make the DHA/EPA, but get them from the things they eat (in the end, i believe it comes from algae of some sort). Just remember your brain is made up of mostly DHA, so i guess that would be another good source :). Fats in general are hard to figure out, with omega 3/6/9 saturated/unsaturated/poly/mono...and the next "big" thing may be CLA (google it), also found in grass fed dairy products. I just incorporate as much plant based materials into my diet and throw in some meat/dairy/whole grains...i try to limit sugars/refined grains. Of course dark chocolate is my weakness! I believe there is work being done to have GM grain (soybean?) that can make its own DHA. I'm very anti GM crop, but the alternative is continued reliance on fish stocks. Another possibility is going right to the source, and growing your own algae, which i know at least one company is doing. Probably our best bet, for humans and the environment. If you are pregnant, or have a young baby, research DHA and you might want to incorporate that into your/their diet. The findings seem pretty positive. I know my wife took DHA supplements when pregnant and that was years ago before i knew what it was.

A cheap source of protein is chicken livers. Here's how I make them most often: CHICKEN LIVERS AND RICE - 2 to 3 servings 4 slices bacon, cut into 1/ 2 inch slices 1 lb. chicken livers, trimmed and quartered 1/ 4 cup flour 1/ 2 tsp. salt 1/ 4 tsp. pepper 1/ 2 cup chopped onion 1/ 2 cup uncooked rice 1/ 2 tsp. dried basil, crumbled 1 whole bay leaf 1 1/ 4 cups chicken broth 2 Tbs. chopped fresh parsley (do not omit) Cook bacon until crisp in large skillet. Combine flour, salt and pepper and dredge chicken livers in it. Remove bacon and reserve. Brown livers in bacon grease. Remove and reserve. Saute onion over medium heat in same skillet (add 1 Tbs. olive oil of needed.) Stir in rice, broth, basil, and bay leaf. Heat to boiling; then turn heat to low. Stir mixture thoroughly, scraping up any browned bits on the bottom of the skillet. Cover. Simmer 20 minutes without lifting lid. Spoon reserved livers over rice but don't stir. Put lid back on and simmer for another 10 minutes or until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender. Remove bay leaf. Sprinkle with bacon and chopped parsley. Healthy? Yes, in many ways except for cholesterol. Since our numbers are good, I'd rather occasionally have the shot of iron and vitamins. Haven't noticed a change in mood yet, but it's only been 2 weeks. Mood swings as I age have become unbearable and if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm open to them. Also looking at purchasing a product called Fem Meds, but it's only available online, so I'm a bit wary. I'm a teacher and this is a very stressful, busy time. Usually as I write my reports, I'm eating the whole time. I often gain 2 or 3 lbs. This time I'm losing - weird. Not sure what makes it "calm." I'm at work right now and can't look at the bottle. It is Jamieson brand and is available at grocery stores and pharmacies (here in Canada anyways). I've always been an advocate of getting what you need from what you eat rather than taking pills, but the last couple of years I've been popping a few different vitamins trying to get the hormones under control. So far, the only effect seems to be to make the drug companies wealthier.

I have heard and read from a guy that beat cancer without chemo and radiation that the stuff is soooo processed it causes inflammation!! The only type he recommends is by biotics research. I buy my vit d3 drops from them. seems good. better to go with CLEAN plant omega 3 and make sure your ratios are close to what they should be. Remove all processed foods with a HIGH omega 6 level because of synthetic ingredients/vitamins. For, they are SYNTHETIC and cause the body/cells HARM and DAMAGE.
