Utility Sink for Washing Small Dogs
Comments (22)Sorry, I've been AWOL & just catching up with this thread. (We drove straight through from Houston to SC on Sunday & have been on a whirlwind schedule doing walkthroughs & meetings for selections.) gerberdaisy - we're about on the same wavelength. Rather than integrating the drainboard with the SS utility we're just going to have some base cabinets with a countertop we can put a slip proof mat on for drying off and grooming. To me, the issue with the Booster Bath is that you have to run a line to some drain & connect to water supply hoses. I'd rather have a sink with a drain & faucet that we can use for other purposes. After a couple of days walking around the site, I can tell that having a place to rinse off Wellies or garden clogs will be great. Like gobruno (& flgargoyle, soon enough), it isn't the periodic bathing as much as it is getting muddy paws rinsed off before they track it into the house. With some kind of washing station in the room from which they access the outside, this will be a an easier task. On Monday, during one of many walkthroughs, I said that I wanted a scullery sink in the dog room. The builder started to talk to me about a shower setup he had done for another client. The cabinetmaker chimed in & said, "She has small dogs. She just wants to pick up the dog & put it in the sink. The scullery sink will work just fine." So, I'm encourage that a professional set of eyes on the space I'm trying to outfit thinks that the scullery sink will work. It's interesting to see the task of dog washing/cleaning through the eyes of owners of very different types of breeds. With small dogs, picking them up & plopping them in the sink is probably faster than trying to convince them to go up a ramp. Silky Terriers don't have an undercoat, so they don't shed anymore than you or I "shed" hair. And yes, they love to shake once the bath is done, but it doesn't drench an entire exercise. Thanks for the thoughts & I'll update you when it is eventually installed. Jo Ann gobruno - yer killin' me waiting for pix. LOL!!!!!...See MoreHelp Me Finish Small Kitchen - Backsplash, etc.
Comments (20)Remodlelfla, I have now cut and pasted that backsplash twice! I think I need to have it. I looked all around the Interstyle site and I can't find that pic. Do you know anything more about that pattern....like is it available on mesh or is it a combo of loose tiles? Nice kitchen, winkwink! Here's mine... I think you have many options thanks to your relatively calm counter top choice. I used something busier (Icestone in Sage Pearl) and I am struggling with how busy I can go with the backsplash...I feel like I can't. Have you looked at Oceanside Glasstile? They have some really gorgeous blends in the 1x1 and 5/8x5/8 sizes. I think either would work for you. I would do a blend of white-ish and whatever color you like....blue or green or amber maybe to play nice with the floor tile. I used Beach Blonde in my last kitchen and it just made my heart sing. (Sorry....I really did love it!) I am kind of afraid to get too busy again....think I need all one color probably. Anyway, here's a pic of the OGT Beach Blonde: Part of my problem is that there are very few tile stores where I live now. How 'bout you? Here is a link that might be useful: OGT....yummy mixes!...See MoreHelp with kitchen design, cabinets, and etc!
Comments (11)We originally went to Home Depot too. Then a neighbor told us about the custom cabinet maker they used. Our cabinet maker does not advertise or even have his name on the door, so the only way to find him is word of mouth. But he does work for high end restaurants like Capital Grill, high-end homes, clients like Tony Dungy and Dick Vitalle. Needless to say, we were very surprised when his quote came back LESS than Home Depot! After going through all the design with HD just to get a quote, the cabinet maker came in, spent about 3 hours with us, took measurements, asked a lot of questions and bounced around ideas. Then a couple days later he gave us a fixed price quote...before doing any design! The design came after we committed to using him, but pretty much anything goes. Like you, HD added money for distressing, more money for glazing, more money for lazy susan and verticle pull-outs, more for crown molding, more for encased bottoms (for flush mount lights). All this type of thing was no added cost with our custom cabinet maker. Plus, he had tons of experience working with designers and had fantastic ideas. I'd suggest you ask at a local high-end restaurant, neighbors, local "Parade of Homes" open house, etc. to find a local cabinet maker. Regarding you layout, folks here asked me to provide a view of the larger living area. It's hard to say without understand your traffic flow. I'm tempted to suggest placing the cooktop where one of the sinks is located, and to make the area with your cooktop an island with no upper cabinets to open things up. In fact, maybe swap the cooktop and one of the sinks....See MoreUtility / broom cabinet
Comments (5)This will probably run $100 for the plain white ones basically big enough for several brooms--I don't know how big the vacuum is--or more for an attractive one. One thing to watch out for is that they need to be tall enough. And a lot of them that are sold as "broom cabinets" are 16" wide and 16" deep. That's usually exterior, so subtract 1.5" and get a 14.5"-square space. Some uprights are 13" square, so it'll be tight fitting the vacuum in. One of the Dyson's is 17.5" across. So measure, before you commit. $100 at Wayfair.com http://www.wayfair.com/Hazelwood-Home-1-Door-Storage-Cabinet-312702-L102-K~HMC1506.html?refid=GX85013509980-HMC1506&device=c&ptid=145743901756&gclid=CjwKEAiA2ve0BRDCgqDtmYXlyjkSJACEPmdwI9CLVjVJhaIO_e4_z1-2dZuv9TvSGXRcIjNUa3kuxRoCDzrw_wcB $130 at Home Depot. (with shelves) http://www.homedepot.com/p/Prepac-Elite-16-in-W-x-16-in-D-Laminate-Wood-Broom-Cabinet-WEB-1664/203055486 You can hang the brooms on the inside of the door, or on the wall beside the vacuum. But it might get pretty tight. If the things you find when you google "broom cabinet" are too small, you might consider looking for a wardrobe or armoire. They're slightly more money, but they'll have more space. And they may come in more attractive finishes (though those will definitely be more money). A plain white wardrobe, $165, from Overstock.com http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Winslow-White-32-inch-Elite-Wardrobe-Cabinet/6721896/product.html?recset=a49ed60d-13ec-435c-b1ba-e078d0e5091b&refccid=OH7GGTJV2MOLSUCKU4HG7RNJYQ&recalg=828,512&recidx=0...See Morebeekeeperswife
