Frigidaire vs. LG vs Bosch

After looking at washers all over town and sadly giving up on the Fisher Paykel (my cabinets are too low), I have come up with a list and now invite comments:

1. Frigidaire FAFW3577KW for $629 with matching dryer for $789

2. LG WM2101HW for $595 with matching dryer for $770

3. Bosch WFMC5301UC for $798 with dryer at $958

4. Bosch WFVC3300UC at 899 with dryer at $979

I think the only thing I know at the moment is that I am easily swayed by salespeople. So please give me your opinions!

I personally have no experience with Bosch, so I can't comment. Frigidaire is probably the most easy to repair and built in US :) LG is very popular and I would chose that personally IF you make sure someone can service it locally. The reason I say LG is I like the LOOKS of their machines better, they get great reviews on most sites, and I like the cycle choices and water plus option on (some models). I'm still a little "suspect" of the company though. I hear their quality control is great but who can say for sure....Good luck

I bought Frigidaire washer GLTF2940FS and dryer GLEQ2152ES about 6 months ago. They both work fine, but obviously I can't comment on long term performance or reliability. Did you check Consumer Reports reviews? They rated a lot of the machines... I needed machines that were not too deep (front to back, to not block walkway), with controls on the front (not top, so I could add a countertop in the future), with ATC for correct water temperature, with a reasonable wash cycle time (45 minutes not 2 hours!), low vibration, and temperature sensor in a dryer.

I do not have the frigidaire, I have the Bosch. 1. I live in an area with hard water. The small Bosch had a built in water softener. 2. I got it for 10% off at Lowes so the difference was probably only $250. 3. I already had a Bosch dishwasher and knew they worked well, though my other one was not as nice of a model. I've used it now for about a year. It works extremely well. If you have very thick dishes, such as Fiestaware, you may find some of the rack tines are too narrow for you. I use Corelle and have no issues at all. I've had Whirlpool, Asko, and Bosch dishwashers. The Bosch is best, hands down. Having said that I DID buy an extended warranty from lowes- they are quite reasonable - because I trust no manufacturer. But another Bosch D/W I have had been installed for 8 years and was still working fine as far as I know. One additional thing: You can fit SO MUCH in that dishwasher I find that for me it fits almost as much as a 24" dishwasher. Absolutely huge stockpots I need to wash by hand - but that's a function of the dishwasher size, not whether or not it could do it. I've had the Bosch 500 DLX (WFVC6450UC) since Oct 2009. I also have been selling appliances since 1995. Here are a couple of things I know.... All Bosch Vision dyrers have reverse tumble - this helps clothes not get stuck in the middle and come out slightly damp when the cycle is over. They are low in temp - max temp at 140, delicate temp is 120. With a higher air flow (280 cfm), drying results are more gentle than other brands. Less heat equals less fabric damage, less shrinking, and less color fading. This is like a bigger version of a European compact dryer (Asko, Bosch, Miele) If you can buy the WFVC6450UC or WFVC4400UC with the "drum sanitize" option try to do so. These are only available at the independents. This cycle will run for 90 mins at 175 degrees. Run it once a month (no clothes) and it will break down all the soap scrud and residue. I don't know of any other mfg that does this. The Exxtra Sanitary cycle is amazing at cleaning whites, towels, sheets, dish rags, etc. 150 degree temp maintained during entire wash portion of cycle, and a 171 degree boost for 4 minutes to kill bacteria. I think Bosch service is better also. More established network of service providers and better parts distribution. Hopefully Bosch will keep parts for 10-15 years for the Vision and Nexxt full-size laundry units. They will still be making the smaller Axxis models going forward. If it matters at all, they are made in the USA.

mpatel - I purchased the Bosch Vision 500 pair in Feb of this year. So far I am very pleased. They clean well. I have no doubt they will last. Lots of cycle choices and I think I've tried most. The Sanitary is quite long, so if you need it, be prepared for it to take 3 hours. The other cycles come in close to an hour. For the price i don't think you can go wrong. I've had a Bosch DW for more than 7 years w/no issues. I love it too.

I have the Bosch WFMC5301UC. I love it so far. The heater is active in all cycles except the quick wash, so if you select hot which is 120F then the heater will kick in to obtain and maintain that temp throughout the wash. Other temps are cold 60F, warm 95F, Kids care 150F, and Sanitize at 170F. You can also select the heavy duty option and the machine will fill with cold water only and heat it to the temp you selected, this allows stains to be removed throughout a wide temperature range, this feature is great when you have unkown or multiple stains to deal with. A normal wash cycle is 58 minutes plus or minus a few minutes as the machine will compensate for the load size. The kids care is 1 hour and 28min, and the sanitize is 2 hours. Using the heavy duty option adds 40 minutes to any cycle. Don't let the longer wash times scare you off, your average dirty load of laundry will be cleaned on the warm or hot cycle, but it's nice to have those other options should you have some really nasty laundry to wash. I use the kids care on socks and whites, and let me tell you it whitens them right up. If I had to do it again I would buy it in a heart beat. We also have the matching dryer, it's quiet, and dries great. Just be forwarned that Bosch dryers are not tolerant of bad dryer venting, they have sensors built in, if the dryer overheats if will throw an error code. This is actually a good thing, it warns you of a potential fire hazard. If you go with Bosh make sure your venting is clean all the way to the outside of your home, and that it meets the install instructions for the dryer. You can obtain the owners manual via PDF downloads directly from the Bosch website for both dryers and washers. Hope this helps.
