Am I Crazy? Fabric for office chair...

Hi there,

As per another post, I'm in the process of re-doing my home office. I want clean/fresh look (white walls) with pops of color.

I'm re-upholstering my office chair and am considering these 2 fabrics. Am I crazy? Too bold??

I actually have the fabric now that's on the pillows in the pic below-been sitting in a closet for a yr so I could finally use...

The pattern would be centered on the back of the chair and actually is a nearly perfect fit.

Or~ what about the Zig zag pattern??

Also, I have these drapes so is it ok to use bold fabric white the black-trimmed panels?

Those curtains are FANTASTIC! Yes, I could see either of those fabrics used on a chair....or use the zig-zag for the upholstery and then throw the pillows on the chair! :0) NICE!!!

Or.....the curtains would carry a black and white combo upholstery on the chair.

I agree, use either one. I love the pops of pattern and the drapes are fantastic.

Good: You can clean them with saddle soap. Bad: Except maybe melted crayon, marker pen, etc., let alone broken pen in back pocket. Institute important mom rule: absolutely no coming near them with coloring implements. All crayons, markers, pens, etc., stay on top of the island. Catch one of them hiding the favorite color beneath his butt and make him sit on the floor for a month. Beets, blueberries, pomegranates might stain, but grown-ups spill too. It's that crayon under the butt that's the biggest problem. Just about everything else should come out if you get on right on it. Leather is nature's vinyl.

Thanks again to everyone who's added comments and opinions, you all are making me think. I really appreciate the help! Amysrq .. *LOL* Bring a moving van, it's one big couch! :D Mitch, Gottcha. Honestly I'm the type of person that would have to place the sofa in my living room and then think about it. I agree the sofa would be the start of a quirky, hopefully fun room and the other pieces would have to reflect that. I have thought it over and I still have not decided whether to adopt the sofa yet. :) Like you pointed out, I'm a bit worried about the fabric. We have kids and dogs to contend with. Here's just a real quick scan of ebay .. both are setting up a citrus color scheme. One more formal, one a bit funkier. I'm not sure if either would actually work with out seeing them in person though. I realize my use of color is not everyone's cup of tea, but these are just the cutest chairs! A bit more formal, but still fun. Not sure about the legs, but you could change them or have a skirt made. You could use the lamp shades to pull in the other citrus colors. I was looking for some nice green chairs, but didn't find anything. The right ones would bring you a whole different direction.

sdkath, My husband and I are in the process right now. He even took on the task himself of the plumbing and electrical. that is the only thing we regret. Not because it was difficult, just a lot of work on his part working 10 hours a day and then coming home and working more. We started late July and are almost finished. What makes us think 20% is that our lowest quote was 38K and we are doing it for 20k. Ours is simple, free form, a couple rock ledges, play deck, seat, no water falls, etc. but we love it and it's going to be great for us. I agree, do your homework......Most subs are eager to help and they know all the steps them selves and know all the other subs. Take them a glass of tea, pull up a chair and talk to them about their work when they are there and pick their brain for other subs for the other steps. Schedule work for the days you can be there, Since ours was simple, each step was a one day process for each sub. A lot of PB's will help with owner builds now in our area because it's so popular. I think folks are catching on.....Make sure they have a license and get a signed agreement and quote before you start work. Never pay until all work is completed. If someone needs money up front they probably don't pay their bills and don't have the credit to get your materials. The most important part is a soils test if required in your area and good engineering for your plans. The rest of the steps are pretty simple.

Hi, I'm late to the party but I did laminate in my kitchen. For a little more, I could have gotten bottom of the line granite, but the BOL granite didn't have the look I wanted, and I couldn't afford a granite that did. It was as simple as that, so I chose a laminate that had the look I wanted. Should I ever win the lottery, I'll install soapstone or a dark granite with lots of movement. Until then, this will do nicely. I use my kitchen hard--lots of cooking, lots of baking, and teenagers that like to cook and bake as well. I can see some microscratches in the "command center", where we work the most. We always use cutting boards, trivets, or hot pads. It's only visible if you look at it from the side under good light, so I'm not stressing about it. Thanks, Westsider for the nice words about my kitchen! :-) So, no, you're not crazy. If this is what you want, then by all means, this is what you should get. This is your kitchen and it needs to function the way you want it to. Enjoy the process, Cj

Nicole's post has me wondering now...

Maybe I should be doing black & white...something like this

I do have the fabric though as showing in my 1st pic (the pillows at the top) so maybe I should make use of it...
Also, I have an appt with the upholstery guy mid next week so if I chnage from the fabric I have, I'll need to re-schedule and order fabric soon. Or...another vibrant one like this...

I have such a hard time deciding because as soon as I do, I see something I like better,lol.

B&W or bright pop of colour?

To give an idea of the fabric above, here it is used on a pillow. This one is from the same collection as the fabric shown on the pillows at the top...

Could I possibly use 1 pattern on the back of the chair and the other on the front & seat? Or...would this be far too much pattern? (still the zig zag option as per the other fabric shown above the drapes.

FYI-furniture is white. Can't think about this anymore tonight...time for bed and I'll be surfing for fabrics again tomorrow:)
