Am I crazy for wanting a 2 stroke????
Comments (20)'I add MMO to the fuel ' They love MMO! One guy years ago said he was preparing his LB for the winter and ran it out of gas. He put MMO into the tank and pulled the starter to get some of it into the engine - and it started! 'Started' might be a rather loose description, but it did actually get combustion, puffing a few times and blowing quite a fog. So he accomplished exactly what he wanted in a most unexpected way. I think what actually happened is there is always some gas left in the fuel bowl when you run it out of gas. The MMO mixed with that and got the level high enough to be picked up, hence the 'starting'. I don't think one will actually get combustion on pure MMO, but there is nothing better for your OPE....See MoreAm I crazy To Want This Kitchen?
Comments (19)Couldn't resist your subject line, and as it turns out you're considering my backsplash tile had to chime in! Others have raised great points about practicality; agree that your sink wall would prob be best with mosaics on wall and counter's edge, but not counter itself. Anyway, I have a small kitchen with a small area of backsplash done in the Fern 3 (called "Marine" on the site where I bought at a good price). I've loved it for 4+ years now -- I call it my Backsplash Therapy as it helps get me through the PNW winter/spring/"summer" dreariness.... IME a Sicis color really intensifies once you get a few of those 12 x 12s up AND get them grouted. At any rate, here's my Fern 3 in a fairly sunny-when-it-shines PNW kitchen: The samples hint at how you'll see a real range of colors -- I get a lot of purple, pink, and silver flashes no matter how bright or dim the lighting. I consider that a feature, not a bug -- and based on your inspiration pic it seems like you're up for that! But if you want more uniformity, I'd consider "regular" glass tiles. May be something to keep in mind, though I don't really think one can go wrong with any of the colors, so happy choosing! [I sampled some of the lighter Mints back in the day -- so pretty.] Here is a link that might be useful: My Sicis (and other) iridescent mosaic tile supplier...See MoreI am SO stir crazy with wanting to "get goin'" on my roses...
Comments (2)Actually I've always just put the cedar mulch (shredded mulch, NOT dyed) over the bare soil. Where the original owners of our house planted the 12 bushes (many of which I have replaced) over 22 years ago was in a strange place. They planted directly (almost touching our brick house (south side). Before I knew anything about roses(except that they loved water, but not to water as the sun was going down)--I had a soaker hose. I soaker hosed them constantly until our contractor told us we were going to have basement foundational problems if I didn't stop this. So then I started watering when we had a dry spell or hot, rather than constantly. They seem to do fine between that and God's watering. Anyway, I used to add soil every year, and started getting more of a "hill slant" to the soil. When I watered, it would flow down onto the sidewalks and water the roses. My brother in law originaly put bricks along the edge, but that was 20 years ago, and they have sunk in. I'm afraid to add more soil for fear of the dreaded hill syndrome. Should I be adding soil ever so often???? Yikes. At this point of my life (since we live with my mom, and she will be 86 this year), don't know how long we will be here--so wouldn't want to dig them out & start elsewhere. They seem to rally back & do beautiful most of the season where they are anyway (except last season). They have the nice brick duplex to protect them from too much wind & cold. The sun most of the day since they are planted facing the South, and I winterize well every winter....See MoreAm I crazy for wanting great room to have wood AND gas fireplaces?
Comments (23)Your architect need to check with your local codes office about what is allowed these days. There are many locations that do not allow a traditional wood burning fireplace in a new build due to air quality issues both indoors and out. They pollute both. They decrease energy efficiency as well. In a cold climate, with the new air sealing and insulation requirements, you will likely be required to choose an insert that uses externally supplied air for combustion and burns hotter in order to decrease pollution....See Morewestsider40
