Going to a Professional Hockey Game!!

I am quite excited! My daughter and I are pretty big hockey fans, she the Vancouver Canucks, me the Calgary Flames.

Her team is doing very well this year. My team is struggling.

For Christmas, we got tickets to a game where they will play each other, and a hotel room so we can stay overnight.

The game is in Vancouver, B.C. which is about 5 hours away from where we live.

We are going to the game on Wednesday evening - should be a lot of fun and a very memorable Christmas gift!

My daughter hopes to get her picture taken with a few of her favorite players, a picture she will treasure!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Calgary is playing right now against the Islanders and are trailing by 2 so far. They did win 4 in a row though. I would love to go to one of their games (the Saddledome is a 10 minute drive from my house), but the tickets are so expensive.

And good on you for loving my Flames! Boo on your daughter. LOL

Fantastic! You will have a great time. It's a great sport to see live. Hockey is one of the few sports I have an interest in. I am fortunate to live in Sharks territory. Our family loves to go to games now and then. When DS a was a teen he and DH had season tickets.

Must say hockey has changed a lot since I was a kid and my dad was a fan. Back in the day it was truly a blood sport. LOL

First, congratulations to Canada for their very gracious hosting of the Olympics and their ability to take many glitches in stride. As for those girls, I think it was bad judgment to celebrate there, the beer and cigars should have been left in the locker room and then there would be no contention. However, girls that age very often display poor judgment, as do girls/women/boys/men of all ages. Of all the things that happen in the Olympics, that's one of the issues that didn't cause me to do any more than shake my head and think that Ashley probably would have done the same thing. Duane, when I got married my husband made me start learning the Wings by their numbers. I never got to double digits. But I did learn to name the original 6 teams! Go Wings! (though we won't really start watching until the playoffs...Gotta get through College Basketball... and since we are nearer Bruins country now, that's ok with me) We have friends/distant relatives who work for the franchise, and have seen some fun pics of them with the Stanley Cup. And I used to work at Bagley and 2nd and remember craning out my window (on the 22nd floor) to see the Wings drive down Woodward on one of the championship parades. I do miss Hockeytown. That was the year a giant inflated squid/octopus hung from the top of the Fisher Building... I could see it from my office... regarding those cats around town, these days we're routing for a really good Lions Draft Pick, LOL!

Nutrition-dense foods include beans, eggs, blueberries, broccoli, oats, oranges, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, turkey breast, walnuts and yogurt. If you are doing strenuous exercise, it's not really a good time to go on a low-cal diet. At least get more to eat before your game, and make sure to eat extra protein then - like eggs. (Martina Navratilova used to eat 10 eggs before a match, among other things).

The teams are quite evenly matched ... ... and they have playdowns to weed out the inferior performers. It says here. Plus, occasionally they finish in 6, or 5 games. If you want to get incensed about something ... ... how about the rules that allow the goon players to smash the heads of the good ones, giving them a concussion ... and after a few of them - they're out of the game for good. Here's an idea ... ... suppose they do some research to find a machine than can administer a concussion without causing other deleterious effects. Then count the number of persons sitting on the Board of Governors of the National Hockey League, plus the head honcho, plus all of the owners of the various teams ... plus the aforementioned Don Cherry (television performer). Then count that many ping-pong bals, paint, say, 5 - 10% of them brown, green, purple, black, or whatever colour you choose. Put all of the balls into a large urn in a benighted room, then blindfold the various people and lead them into the room, one at a time, to pick out one of the balls. If they pick a coloured one - they visit the concussion machine! One doubts whether the goons administering concussions would persist long, following such an exercise. ole joyful

We used to have season tickets to the Flyers and I loved going to the games. We finally gave them up since there are over 40 home games each year and with our work schedule there were times we had to give them away at the lat minute. But you'll have a great time - it so much better to watch in person than on the TV set.

Just found out my younger sister and her son will be at the same hockey game. Wouldn't it be weird if out of all the people at the stadium, you sat by them? LOL They're both 'nucks fans.

I love hockey too! So fun and exciting. I work for the man who owns the (Mighty) Anaheim Ducks and have been to several games. Each time I was invited to watch it from the owners private suite which came with a waitress and free food and drinks. They have several front row seats right at the glass that suite attendees can use as well for a period during the game. Lots of up close action. Can't get any better than that! Next game for me is Jan. 12th.

Have a wonderful time--there's absolutely nothing like seeing a hockey game in person. And how fortunate--whoever wins, one of you will be happy--will make for a fun experience, I think

Really hate to bring this up--but if things there are anything like they are here (Philadelphia), it's highly unlikely you'll get anywhere near any of the players on game night. They're really protected and kept away from the fans. Which is sort of weird, because they live right among us (I live in NJ--as far as I know, all the Flyers live on this side of the river. DH has been to some of their houses and met them in the course of doing his job, my sister lives around the corner from one, they frequent the local bars and restaurants). Anyway, I wanted to suggest that the best way to get to see players up close, chat with them, and maybe get a photo or autograph is to go to a practice. You should be able to get the practice schedule and location on the team website. The Flyers practice facility is just a few blocks from my dd's house, and they're wonderful about chatting with fans in the parking lot after practice sessions. It's the BEST place to actually see the guys. Maybe that's something else you could do while there, if there's a practice session scheduled?

We're huge hockey fans here too. We used to go to Sharks games all the time but we moved and don't go much anymore. We go to the Stockton Thunder ( minor league) games now. They are tons of fun and a LOT cheaper.

I doubt you'll have a chance for photos or autographs. The sharks have specific fan appreciation days for things like that.

You'll still have great time!!!
