I like both, but really think I like your IKEA fabric version better in your space. Maybe I'd like the pricier fabric a little better on a bigger window opening, where you'd see more of the pattern/repeat across the span. I think you chose wisely! :-)

That's my favorite Ikea print! I like how the veins on the leaves play off the herringbone backsplash. I like the expensive one, too, but not at all enough more to justify the price difference :)

P.S. This fabric choice is going to influence the artwork choice in your other thread!

Cat, I think you're right about the scale being too big with the expensive print & that the IkEA fabric is a better scale.

Staceyneil, I thought the same thing about the herringbone, I also liked that it was the inverse of dark and light. Yes I agree with the fabric will influence the picture. I have been liking the color of the floral branch picture because it adds some depth of color instead of just gray and black of the charcoal drawing.

Annsch, the 2x4 tiles are marble that were disassembled from a 12"square mosaic from The Tile Shop. The original pattern was in a running bond which I considered. But I REALLY wanted to do the herringbone all over, so even though many advised me to not do it (friends & family) because of the time, I did it any way.

Since you specifically asked.....I don't like either. I like the Ikea pattern and fabric very much on its own. When put up in your kitchen, I don't like how the definite leaf pattern takes away from the lovely, classy style of the herring bone. If the leaves weren't contrasting as much with the fabric's background, I'd be in. Sorry! Just MHO.

the fabric but not all of the time. Sometimes its good and sometime
it is too rigid in its flatness of color. I like the negative aspect of
the pattern compared with the tile, but it is very flat, and the marble
has a lot of subtle depth.

I really like the Ikea fabric, but I think a bolder color might actually look even better. Depends on the look you're going for.

Do you need a valence? I'm often of the less-is-more school so this may not apply to you (your question suggests it doesn't) but if it was mine I would leave your beautiful kitchen as is and focus on landscaping along the fence to the right in your view.

I think your kitchen choices so far, with the lovely arch over the window, the soft colors of the herringbone back splash, and the soapstone counters are lovely.

I like the Ikea fabric, but perhaps for another use in your kitchen. I think your window and its view should be bare naked. I prefer no window treatments.

I find the grey in the first one too dark and you lose the softness of the grey in your backsplash. The second one, the pattern is too big. I love the backsplash, I think it is stunning and it took a lot of time to do it and I don't think either of them accent the tile. I didn't comment on your thread with the art works as my comments were going to be negative, ( I hate being a naysayer) but I felt that same about the suggested artworks - none of them helped to accent the backsplash. Your backsplash is so unique in pattern and beautiful in a very soft way in colour that I think your artwork and valance should accent it and not overwhelm it.

I also want to say that your backsplash is awesome and something like it is now on my short list.

I like the Ikea one and think the pattern is a softer rounder echo of the herringbone. The scale is right and you can't beat that price!
