I love the rug and the solid couch and think the yellow chairs are fine. I would find some way to bring in more of the rug color into the room -- pillows, or on the chair by the clock, or ceramic bowls.

I remember your other post and didn't respond, but I really thought then (and still do) that the rug looks great in your LR. Tweak at your leisure; probably with some pillows on the sofa and some blue and white ceramics on your coffee table or elsewhere. I think it's a great rug that makes a statement, and your room can handle it. Your chairs are fabulous. Don't you dare touch them!!
I also like the coffee table; glass is best there. I think it's a great room and works well with your dramatic hallway, as I remember it.

Okay, first off I'm not an interior designer so I'm just offering my personal opinion! I certainly don't want to offend.

a)I think the red rug looks better than the yellow (it's too much yellow, they blend together).

b) Some throw pillows on the sofa that pick up the red in the rug, with a little blue would pull in the sofa.

c) The rust colored chair by the grandfather clock, would fit in more if it was in a shade of blue similar to what is on the red rug and armchairs.

d) That particular glass coffe table looks too contemporary for the style of sofa and armchairs, although goes well with the rug (a round glass topped, wooden table would look better).

e)Something blue on the coffee table to bring the sofa chairs and rug together.

I like the red rug in the LR - it doesn't match exactly, but your style is a touch eclectic, so I think it anchors things. I do think maybe some burgandy in accents - pillows, a throw etc. would help marry the yellow and burgandy.

Are you trying to figure out what to put in the Dining Room? I'm a big confused as to how the yellow rug fits in since it was the basis of your original post. Did you buy that rug already, or do you just like it?

I think it might work in your Dining Room actually. I know you have alot of yellow in there, but it's a pretty color and with the furniture, it would look nice.

I'd like the yellow rug in the living room -- and the maroon rug back in the dining room.

N2bach1, may I suggest posting a pix of your dining room as well? I think it would help people decide about putting the burgundy rug back or using the yellow.

I still like the burgundy in the LR. Yes, you need to add some accent pillows, lose the red poinsettia, but in the overall space, with all the dark furniture and large pieces you have, I think it is much more effective than something lighter, including the yellow rug you are considering. IMO, it has enough pattern to be interesting, to compliment the florals on the chairs, but not look schizophrenic or boring like some of the rugs that were posted the other day. You have a lot of eclectic things in the space, and I think this is traditional without being stuffy.

I still like the idea of the yellow in the DR, because of the yellow wallpaper in there and also the dark furniture. I think it provides a nice break between the dark wood of the table and chairs, and the wood floor.

Originally, I wanted to put the yellow rug (as a runner) in my entry hall on top of black and white tile. That's how the yellow rug came into being! Then I got some great suggestions of putting the yellow rug into the dining room (which is mostly yellow!) and I got enthused about having a "yellow" room! So I switched the maroon rug to the living room. That's when I posted the pics.

Anyway, I have not purchased the yellow rug yet (thank Goodness!) but am kind of in a quandry now about what to do with the maroon rug. I cannot return it and don't want to because I really like it. But now I'm questioning how it really looks in the dining room. Of course, this again is one of my great mistakes (maybe not, totally) made with the help of a decorator!
Bottom line is this.....I have to use this rug somewhere in my home and at this point, there are only 2 choices....living room or dining room!!!

Love, love, love the toile chairs. Don't do anything to them, please! I agree, you could with unlimited funds and time find a rug that is a better match; but this one works and you already own it and I'm sure the money could better be spent for another purpose. From a more practical standpoint, it's a dark color and so should not show dirt as much as a lighter one. I particularly liked one of the mockups that was done with a burgandy lamp shade--it really pulls the color up to eye level. The touch of blue in it looks wonderful with your chairs as well. I've not seen a picture of your dining room so I cannot comment on whether it looks better there or here.

Can you buy a small version of the yellow rug to try in the DR for color etc. without having to lug a huge rug home and potentially back to the store?

I think it would work in the DR, but since you're sortof gun shy on buying another rug that you might not like, I can understand your hesitation.

The other reason I like the yellow rug is because it is fairly plain. With your floral wallpaper, I think if you get too much pattern in a rug, the room will be to busy.

IIRC Squirrel did mock ups with several different types of rugs to give a visual. Were there others I missed?

To the OP, perhaps you can take a distance shot from the foyer like you presented in another thread. It may give people here a better feel for the depth of the room, which could sway their opinion of how this rug looks.

It's somewhat limiting to look at pictures and know if something works IRL or not. I know when I see pictures of my home, the decor elements often look distorted in size than they are when actually standing in the room. IOW, if the rug works for you, then it's a keeper.
