Question For You Bread Pros..., Please

I am making the recipe below. When I am making bread, the recipe says to "cover and let rise in a warm place til double." If I have a damp dishtowel on the bread, it seems like my bread does not double because of the weight of the dishtowel. What do you do, and what am I doing wrong?
