I bought the Schuler cabinets from Lowe's, which is Medallion's line as sold by Lowes. I am crazy impressed with the quality of these cabinets (I ordered all-plywood boxes and got free softclose doors and drawers too). The paint finish is gorgeous low sheen, the wood is impeccable, and the construction quality is incredibly solid. They can do custom features including custom sizing (height width depth) in 1/4 inch increments, and can create deluxe finished sides too. I have a bunch of modifications on my cabinets, including the flush toekicks with the decorative cutouts that are currently making my contractor crazy because of the waviness of the floors (you can't just shim those and cover it with toekick molding -- you have to create scribed inserts and paint/finish them to match) Pricewise I think they're less than Omega, more than Kraftmaid. Mine were 18k with a free sink base and 10% discount. I loved my Lowe's cabinet designer, but I also did my own research on what Schuler/medallion had available, and what would work with my sink selection, since the designer was far more familiar with the Kraftmaid options, and did not understand the type of sink I wanted. Still, she did a great job helping me realize my vision. I hope this helps. I hope to have pics someday soon, but the place is just such a mess, I don't want to scare anyone off.

I don't know anything about Shrock or Kraftmaid, but many of my friends and neighbors (I live in NJ) have remodeled their kitchens in the last few years using Medallion cabinets, and they're all delighted with them. The local distributor/installer they've all used (it's that kind of neighborhood - if someone does really good work for one or two people, they get more work than they can handle for years to come) uses Medallion almost exclusively. In fact, when the job has been completed, the owner (he's very involved throughtout) typically comes by for a walk through and even suggests which doors he thinks need replacing if they're "off" in any way. Remarkable customer service, and I have to believe that Medallion is being very accommodating, not just the dealer. Everyone is very happy with their kitchens, and they're all holding up really well. Full disclosure: I am not going to be using this dealer or Medallion, because I want a very contemporary, Italian-look kitchen, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the look I want with their cabinets. I'm 99% sure I'll be using CraftMaid based in Reading PA(NOT the same as Kraftmaid) for my kitchen. I actually drove 2 hours to their factory (I'm becoming really crazy in my quest to get this kitchen the way I want it) and I was very happy with what I saw.

We just purchased KM after having considered the Medallion. IMO, they are very similar, including in price. Our final decision was based on four points: 1. KM had the exact rustic door style and stain we wanted (although Medallion came close); 2. our KD and installer have had fewer problems with KM (although their recollections of Medallion "problems" certainly wouldn't scare me away); 3. the promotions from KM (that expire 7/30!) brought us to a lower final price; 4. in our neck of the woods, folks think more highly of KM (whether they should or not). I say, if you find what you love in either, you'll be fine.

Hi Tink! I've been coming here a LONG time. I don't remember the exact year, but definitely sometime in the 90's! I remember doing a "Netscape Search" (if that doesn't date me!!!) on how to take care of a raw butcherblock top...instead of a sealant. But anyway.... Yes, I sell other lines (from low to high): United Series by Legacy, Debut by Legacy, KraftMaid, Showplace Wood Products, Medallion, Holiday Kitchens and Plain & Fancy. Most builders wouldn't have allowances high enough to have a nice Medallion kitchen. At least that's true in my neck of the woods. So, I believe that your builder thought you paid a LOT more for the cabinets...you probably did. But, you won't have to spend the money to replace them in 12 to 15 years either. Most builder grade cabinets don't look nearly as good after that amount of time. When Medallion first came out with inset, we laughed. The price was SO high, it wasn't that much more for Plain & Fancy cabinetry!!! So, we didn't even bother getting brochures or displays. Since then, Medallion must have figured out they were too high and have since lowered their prices on inset. A while back they had a promo that really brought down their inset prices. I almost ordered a built in entertainment center for my home....that's how great it was. If you have a Showplace dealer in your area, you should check them out. Nice looking cabinet and less money than Medallion inset! But price out both just to be sure. And if you have a P&F dealer, give them a shot too! Their painted finishes are incredible!!! I would say that Brookhaven would be in the Medallion price range. Both are upper end semi-custom cabinetry. KraftMaid is middle of road semi-custom....while Debut is lower end semi-custom!
