how to make a pie crust round?

I've struggled with pie crusts all my life. Not the texture... I know not to over work them (and I've learned that a pastry cutter is useless... I actually threw mine away!). I mean, how to make the silly things round?!

I want to make a chicken and veggie pot pie. When I've made apple pies in the past, I had awful looking results. I usually roll the dough in a ball and then smash it flat with my hand. Then roll it with the rolling pin in all directions. It starts out as a circle, but by the time I'm through... it's a shape isn't in any geometry book. I usually take the whole mass and drop it in the pie tin. Then cut to fit. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Thanks :o)
