Sympathy! Tea might help. Do you have one of those blankets with sleeves you can mope around in? Do you have a friend/sister/maid who can come help you make just enough clean to make you feel like you can live through to tomorrow?

If you're a drinker, there are better things than tea. I mean, tea is great, but some of the decisions would go so much easier if you were just a tiny bit inebriated.

I suppose you can start up a RapidResponseRequired thread here for the decisions you're too groggy to make. Of course, we tend to not be good for that. We seem to have a habit here of expanding options instead of narrowing them, but I'm sure if you explained the situation we'd be better. :)

Have some tea and just keep your eye on that bottle of Nyquil, ready to pounce as soon as they're gone. It's almost time. Almost.

I had a lousy week (non-reno related) too so you have my utmost empathy and sympathy.

Absolutely you can (& should) vent! Under the best of circumstances being asked "right-now" questions with long-term repercussions is jarring and unnerving, but to top it off with your cold and monthly malaise can just be too much.

I really hope you're able to get some good sleep tonight! Hot water bottle ....

Yep. I understand. I was there myself. I got sick just before the work began and could not get well for months. It will pass -- not quickly enough, but it will pass. If it weren't for the muck and the money, we might do these crazy things more often! LOL

Oh buffetgirl, I'm sorry ! I totally understand, you and I seem to be on exactly the same schedule, if ya know what I mean ! The only difference between us seems to be that most of the dusty stuff finished last week (and my darling builder has a cleaning lady come after each dirty phase), and my Auntie visited last week (when they cut the water to the house so I had no bathroom AT ALL for TWO nights ! Talk about terrible timing (I went to a hotel for the second night, I really really really needed a hot bath and a clean bed. And a hug, but I didn't get that at the hotel :-)

Oh I don't have a cold either, that must make it really horrible. What about a hot toddy ? That'll warm you up.

I so understand the feeling of money flying out of my possession lately, I had a panic attack about that a couple weeks ago. So many decisions. So much money.

I keep telling myself it'll get better. Trust me. It'll get better. Look how much has happened to our homes over the last couple months ! It's amazing ! and my builder tells me that the hardest stuff is all done now, it will go really fast from now on. I bet it's the same for you too.

I had the exact same thing happen to me and I did exactly as you are wishing you could do - I got all the kids to school, came home, promptly told my lead guy that I was either going to fall over an emotional cliff and have a breakdown at his feet OR he was going to take charge and let me sleep all day - he told me that there were no decisions that couldn't wait for me to be better (and, seriously, as much as they want answers on the spot and we want to be the ones giving them, they can find other things to do while we are away!!) - so, I crawled under my covers fully dressed, turned off all the phones, kept the shades pulled and slept straight through lunch until early afternoon when it was time for the kids to come home. I surfaced for about an hour and then passed out again once the boys started their homework - my contractor later told me that when all the subs saw me "falling apart", that they all managed to finally put their big boy pants on and get their work done without constantly having questions...made me wonder if I shouldn't have been sick more often!!

Oh yes - whine away. Then have a snuggle under blankets (after a hot bubble bath?) with a sign that says "do not disturb" put on top. When I have a cold, deciding how to begin chopping the onions I need for dinner is too big a decision . . . no fair to ask for more lasting ones.

Look at the "before" pictures and see how far you have come. It might help to avoid the "oh this looks like doodoo" and allow you to see the finished vision more clearly. And for me, just writing out my rant made me feel better a couple of weeks ago.

This is actually a good sign! You're at the worst possible moment...it only gets better from here.

It will be a long slow uphill climb, but it will all be finished, and all that dust will disappear.

I finally explained to my husband (who made very, very few of the decisions) that I would announce my decisions when I was good and ready. This actually made sense to him when I reminded him that we, not the contractor, were footing the bill. I still had to think on my feet at times, but it was a good general policy.
Have a hot toddy, give yourself a break, and read something funny!

Can't help you with the money hemorrhage. Try not to think about it.

Hot tea with honey and cognac, a few advil and a good whine/wine should take the edge off...repeat as often as necessary. Feel better soon.

oh thank you all so much! You all made me feel so much better.

The cold is still here but I got a nice sleep. The right now decisions are the ones that kill me. normally I can rapidly think through all the scenarios in 30 min or so and come up with the right answer but when you're head's not right simply deciding where on the wall I wanted him to block for the towel rack just seemed too much for me. So I got dh last night, found the towel rack, held it up and in about 5 min we had put a sticky note where the towel rack goes and the TP goes. Simple. But I just couldn't do it.

My foreman is here this morning and today dh and I HAVE to decide of flooring. We're at the wire. it will be fun, and I can't wait to have real hardwood on my floor, something I never expected, I just wish we did this back in August.

Whine away! Nothing worse than a headcold, especially if you're trying to deal with minutiae.
