I suppose the corkscrew technique would also help hold corn on the cob steady when cutting off the kernels. I wonder whether it would work for peeling and cutting other unwieldy fruits and vegetables that don't have pits--e.g., eggplant, pineapple, maybe even butternut squash (as long as they were going to be cut up, so the hole left by the corkscrew wouldn't matter for appearance). Have you tried the method on these or other foods?

You all know me and gadgets....I have a mango slicer.
It really works great. Kind of like a apple slicer but just has the cut out for the mango seed.

Thank you Grainlady for the mango leather recipe. I have made mango leather before but I didn't have honey on hand so I used invert sugar instead. I will have to try it again with honey, and may be with my solar dehydrator.

Sue, I have not tried this method to cut other fruits and vegetables. I agree that many squashes are very difficult for cutting. I basically use a cleaver and hammer to split them.

Linda, I had one of those slicers. It worked well with not so ripe mangoes of a medium size round type like Carrie, or Cogshall, but will not work with kidney shaped ones like Po Pyu Kalay or Valencia Pride. Also, I don't think the slicers can peel mangoes.
