You are welcome, Phyllis. I thought about you when I posted this. I also thought some would like to see some colorful flowers, instead of snow.

I guess you and I are the only ones who like visiting Djuma!

What fun! Thanks for sharing the plan - it's such a good idea to make sure that your spacing is correct and that you have the right roses in the right places. You are allowing enough space between them, it seems. Is this bed an island? Some of the shorter and smaller roses will get lost if they are in the back. You might want to add the dimension of height into your planning and consider how it will look 3-D. I agree that Portland from Glendora is problematic in this mix, which consists of teas with a few modern roses with glossy leaves. P from G is one of my favorite roses, but its growth is big and gawky and coarse (although its flowers are refined and fragrant and wonderful). I've seen it grown as a hedge, and I have it at the back of a border. In the cemetery, it's just a big tall plant. I think it might look out of place at the edge of a bed of teas. The yellow of Mistral may be a bit too bright and modern for the rest of these roses. All tea colors harmonize, it seems to me, although I wonder if Mrs. B. R. Cant and Mme Lombard are too similar in coloration (not similar at all in shape of flower) to be side-by-side. I also wonder about G. Nabbonand and Mrs. Dudley Cross, both of which are quite pale, I believe, and might not contrast enough. Iris or salvia would add spiky notes and blue/purple colors, which would punctuate the garden well. Anita

ejr: You probably realize this (& it's most excellent Weston is guaranteeing to replace those that don't survive), but you are planting quite late. Even here on the coast in Lynn we are now getting freezes. The ideal time to plant in the autumn is in September, which gives the roots a chance to develop while the top is slowing down and preparing for winter. In any case, water, water, water, water, water! Mulch, mulch, mulch, mulch, mulch! The watering will help give the plants a bit of water in their tissues that they will need for the winter, and the mulch will help stabilize soil temperatures underneath them. That fights "heaving" which can happen when you plant late, for the soil in the planting hole will have different physical characteristics than the surrounding soil, and so as the ground freezes and thaws during the winter days the planting hole soil can get shoved up above the rest of the soil (hence "heaving"). That rips the roots of the plant out of place and sets them back very badly (or can even kill them). Those are the two usual pieces of advice for fall planting anyway, but they will matter even more for you. Make sure to carefully note whatever advice Weston offers you and follow it well. Doing so will help ensure that they honor their guarantee. Not following the supplier's advice in such a situation can lead to the warranty becoming void. (Check to see if there are any disclaimers in the guarantee. Don't be surprised if there are.)

Ibar, Your Lady rose is beautiful - yellow is my favorite color for roses. You wouldn't know it by what I have - red, red and more red... Brenda, I am so sorry for your loss but I am happy to have you back! My parents are both gone and I have a small bed that my daughter & I plant annuals in each year for them. Some times more for my Father, some times more for my Mom and some times a little of both. They were both lover's of growing things (mostly kids - LOL - there are 17 of us - 5 real and 12 adopted!) I am alway on the hunt for perenals with their names - Jack is easy but Mom's given name was Sylvania shortened to Vanie, I am not having much luck there! :) Her favorite plants were Iris and Clematis. I have lots of Iris and my daughter babying along 2 Clematis with not much luck. I have some Angel Clematis seeds that I am trying to start, they aren't up yet but I am keeping my fingers crossed. If I get enough to grow up I plan to cover a fence with them and make a permantent 'Loved Ones' garden. Oh, I just thought of something! llbean made a garden item out of an old light bulb - I could do a couple of them out of Sylvania ones! That would get my Mom's name in there, wouldn't it! I just use 1/4" screen. The particles that pass are still pretty large, especially length wise. A large portion of the material I buy is smaller than 1/4" and I dont feel like I'm wasting or missing anything using the smaller screen.

It is beautifully green right now, but as beautiful as the flowers are, the new animal life is amazing too. Have you seen the pictures of Karula's little ones?

It is in Africa and they do two ranger led safaris a day that are just wonderful.I think in your time zone they start about 7am and 7 pm, Anne. Enjoy.

I've been watching for over an hour - very cool. This is something I wouldn't have been able to see with Webtv, that is for sure.

My cat Lucy who is sitting right under the speakers on the computer table reacted when the lion made noise.

I've never seen that many Lions at one time before. Must have been 4-5 of them. It was exciting to hear them roar!

Hope you didn't mind me posting that addy. I didn't want her to miss the lions. A few months back there were two prides, one on each side of the watering hole. They gave each other a lot of space, but there sure was tension in the air. Must have been 10 -12 of them. It is addicting!

Cathyid, not at all. I just didn't take the time after copying the links to the pics to go back and get the URL. I wanted to get back to the lions.

I find this site just remarkable. Considering the technology involved, along with the cost, how we can just sit here and "be there," and for free. Hearing those lions roar was a real treat.

I missed the lions at the water hole. Or as Pieter says, "the wat-ole."

I saw this evening that Karulas' second little one has shown itself.
